Sony Smartwatch 3 launched with Android Wear

Sony Smartwatch 3

Whenever we stumbled across the Sony Smartwatch 3 in leaks or rumors, it was repeatedly specified that the device would not pack Android Wear and rely on Sony’s custom software instead. Turns out those reports were wrong as the Japanese manufacturer has just announced the Smartwatch 3 wearable sporting Android Wear in all its glory. The company also showed off the SmartBand Talk wearable which has an e-ink display and serves a different purpose.

The Smartwatch 3 has a 1.6 inch display, 512MB of RAM, a 1.2 GHz quad core CPU, GPS, 4GB of internal storage, IP68 certification for water and dust resistance with a 420 mAh battery. Pricing or availability details are yet to be disclosed, but we don’t expect it to cost more than $200 going by the prices of the current crop of Android Wear smartwatches. The Smartwatch 3 will be available in Black or Lime color variants with a multitude of colorful straps to choose from.

The SmartBand Talk isn’t a conventional fitness tracker as it appears to be. It syncs with the Lifelog app on Android and lets you track goals or the steps taken during the day. The Lifelog API will be made available to third party developers as well, which is good news. The device also has NFC for pairing with devices in addition to Bluetooth. The 70 mAh battery on the SmartBand Talk will reportedly last 3 days on a full charge. The device has been priced at 159 ($209).

What do you think of the Smartwatch 3 and the SmartBand Talk? Let us know.
