Note 3 Water Damaged

Problem: Hi I was referred to one of my colleagues about this site helping people with their android devices and I was hoping I can be help as well. My problem started with my note 3 being expose to water which was shielded with a water proof case provided by seido. Water enter my case at the bottom side of the case and I quickly remove the case and took the battery out and let it dry in à bucket of rice for 3 days and once I took out it I use a blow dryer to dry it out just to make sure all water is gone. I then put the battery in and turn on my note 3 and it came on smoothly but to my surprise I get no sound after it boot up and I try playing music and it crash so I try the camera and that also crash so I try placing a call but it crash also. My touch functions working except the camera, music, videos, voice calls so basically am stuck with an expensive phone with limited functionality so any help will do.

Solution: Unfortunately in this case it appears that the water may have damaged the internal hardware of your phone. There is however small possibility that this could just be a software issue which we will try to determine. You will have to back up the data on your phone as a factory reset will be done.

Factory reset Note 3

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3’ appears on the screen, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.

Once your phone has fully rebooted try checking on some of the functions that didn’t work previously. If they still don’t work then your best option right now is to bring your device to an authorized service center for hardware checking.

Note 3 Does Not Display Passcode Characters

Problem: Lately I’ve been noticing that I have to restart the phone because it will not accept the passcode on normal startup.  Seems as though it take several seconds to display the numbers I enter.  To resolve this issue, I have to do a “restart”.  After that it works fine.  Let the phone sit overnight and try to enter the passcode, it won’t display entered characters.  Requires a “Restart”.  Any ideas. Thanks

Solution: Does the problem only occur when you are entering the passcode or does it also occur when you are trying to type in a message? If your phone takes a long time to display the characters you try to enter then this could either be caused by a lack of system memory, an app or a group of apps, or even the phone software itself. Follow the troubleshooting steps below to resolve this issue. Make sure your device is running on the latest software update before proceeding.

Clear out the memory

  • Turn the phone off
  • Take out the battery
  • Long press on the power button for at least 3 minutes
  • Re-insert the battery
  • Turn the phone on

What this procedure does is it clears out the phone memory of any unnecessary data that may cause your phone to run slow. Try checking if you can enter the passcode normally. If the problem still persists then proceed to the next step.

Safe Mode

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3’ appears on the screen, release the Power key. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • ‘Safe mode’ will display in the bottom left corner of the screen. Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode.’

In Safe Mode only the default apps of your device is loaded. All third party applications you downloaded from the Google Play Store will be disabled. If you notice that the problem does not occur anymore then chances are it is caused by a third party app. You will have to find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem still persists then proceed to the next step.

Factory Reset (Backup your data before performing this procedure)

This is the last course of action you will take. What this does is it brings back your phone to its original condition when you first turned it on. In most cases the problem should be gone by now.

Note 3 Picture Message No Longer Saves To Gallery

Problem: I have the galaxy note 3. I just recently did the newest update to my system. Today I noticed that when somebody sends me a picture message and I try to save the message it no longer goes to my gallery. It now goes under my files. How can I fix it to where when I save the picture it goes to my gallery? I have saved a picture off of Facebook and it goes to my gallery but not my pictures from my messages.

Solution: Normally, if you can see the saved picture messages in your files folder then it should also appear in your gallery. If this isn’t the case then you may want to clear the cache of the gallery app.

  • From the home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • From the General tab, tap Application manager
  • Swipe left to the All tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the Gallery application.
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • The application cache is now cleared.

Note 3 Help In Saving Battery Life

Problem: What do you recommend is a battery saver because i turn on the power saving mode in the battery still last the same amount of time is it would without it which is basically a day turn off my wifi on my phone only when i am at home i will use it. Turn off GPS turn off location turn off Bluetooth what else can I do the battery still last the same I’m always having to recharge it every night… I’m up at eight start work at 9 come home by 5 and the battery is at like 10 person the only problem is I’ve turned off all those things that drain the battery and it still is the same so do you really have any recommendations battery savers or better yet getting an extended battery also if I get an extended battery will it break my warranty with my phone company which is T Mobile.

Solution: The battery life of your phone will depend on the number of services running and the way you use your device. If you constantly make calls or access the Internet with your device then the phone will drain its battery charge quickly. In your case it seems like you have already done all of the power saving tips but still your battery runs out of charge quickly. This may be caused by a faulty battery Try replacing it with a new one (an original Samsung battery is preferred) and check its performance. Getting an extended battery also sounds like a good idea however I don’t have any information if it will break your warranty with T-Mobile. You will have to ask your carrier regarding this.

Note 3 How to Turn Off Delivery Report Notification

Problem: Hey guys, do you know if this can be turned off? I’ve gone through all the menus and for whatever reason I can’t figure out how to turn it off. So, whenever a message fails to send, it gives me the same notification as the one I get for incoming text messages. I either want to turn it off or change the notification. I could’ve sworn this could be changed, but am drawing a blank on where to access.

Solution: Try going to Messages >settings >SMS/MMS and delivery reports tick box is there for SMS and when you scroll down there’s a tick box for MMS.

Note 3 Can’t Receive Text Messages

Problem: My husband and I both have a Galaxy Note 3. We have issues getting each other’s text messages. Not all the time but most of the time. We have Sprint and I have bugged them to death about this issue, tried all the things they suggest trying but nothing works. As far as we can tell it is only between our two phones. I did download a third party message app (Chomp) but we still have the same issue. I think it is the stock message app myself, but we are at a loss. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Solution: If the issue occurs on both of your phones only and you are both on the Sprint network then this could be a network related issue. You could do a soft reset on your device by simply restarting it. This refreshes your phone to the network and will improve your connection.

You could also try using the stock messaging app but you should clear its cache first

  • From the home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • From the General tab, tap Application manager
  • Swipe left to the All tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the Messaging application.
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • The application cache is now cleared.

Note 3 Correct Way To Connect To PC Using USB

Problem: I am coming from Note1 and in that I had to go to settings -> Click USB connection -> connect phone -> start connection. This is how I connected my phone to my Windows 7 computer. AND, to end connection -> I press Stop USB connection on my phone and then I pull the usb plug form my PC. Now in Note 3, I aint finding any such option. So do I just have to connect cable to the usb port of my PC and am done? – If I do it this way, won’t it corrupt phone internal storage and SD card as I will just pull the plug to end connection?

Solution: For the Note 3 you simply have to plug it using a USB cord to your PC. Just make sure that the drivers are installed (you can do this by using Kies or by downloading the drivers from the Samsung website). It will immediately be detected by your PC. To disconnect your phone simply unplug it from your PC. Just make sure that you are not transferring a file when you disconnect the phone as the file being transferred will be corrupted.
