Note 2 Detects Wi-Fi But Can’t Connect To It

Problem: Hi Team, read your blog on the internet from where I got the mail-id, I am writing this mail to get the answer for my Note 2 Wi-Fi. My device is able to search the Wi-Fi network but unable to connect with that. Even the same problem is arising with the tethering hotspot. After switching on the Tethering hotspot of my device Samsung Note 2, the system & other device are able to save the device but unable to connect with it. I have done the hard reset also after which the problem is still occurring. Kindly guide me on this.

Solution: When issues arise regarding a Wi-Fi connection there are only two possible suspects. It’s either a problem with the router or a problem with the mobile device connecting to the router. In your case you mentioned that you already performed a hard reset on your phone but still you are unable to connect. Have you tried connecting to another wireless network after performing the hard reset? The reason I’m asking this is that this issue might be caused by the router you are currently connecting to.

Try to connect to another wireless network and see if you can connect to it. If you can then it’s probably a setting issue with the router you previously used.

Here’s what you need to do to your router

  • Reset your router: Unplug your router from the power outlet then plug it back in after a minute. This procedure refreshes your router and clears up any errors that may be causing the issue.
  • Check if too many devices are connected to your router: If your router is overloaded chances are you can see it but you can’t connect to it.
  • Change the authentication type: Try to use WPA2-PSK authentication as this seems to work well with most Android devices.
  • Check for firmware upgrades: Your router may be using an outdated firmware. Check and see if there are any updates.

If however your phone still can’t connect to another router but other phones can then there might be an issue with the hardware of your device.  Your best option is to bring it to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 2 Alarm Does Not Ring

Problem: So I have a samsung phone for quite a while, I’ve had note before this, and I currently own note 2, the problem is that the alarms do not ring, and this is very frustrating. When I set up an alarm, everything goes fine, the phone is not on silent, the alarm volume is full, I set it for correct day/time, and I am also sure I am not oversleeping. There is no pattern to this, sometimes the alarms ring, other times they don’t, I have searched a lot of threads, still not able to find a solution, also I’ve tried factory reset, I have cleaned my cache, through recovery mode, I’ve factory reset my device through recovery mode. I’ve even gotten my PBA replaced from samsung care, but nothing seems to cure this problem, also I had the same problem in samsung note. I even tried using different alarm app, not using the stock samsung one. Nothing seems to cure this for me. I wanted to know if there is a patch that someone on xda might have created, or maybe you know about it. I am really frustrated with this. I would really appreciate your help.

Solution:  You mentioned that this issue randomly occurs. Sometimes your alarm works correctly and sometimes it doesn’t. First may I know if you are using the latest software update for your device? Try checking for any new updates and install it since this contains improvements and bug fixes that may help resolve this issue.

Once you have verified that your phone is running on the latest software then it’s time to do some troubleshooting. What I could suggest right now is to try using your phone in Safe Mode. We need to know if a certain app that you installed is causing this issue and this can be done in Safe mode since all third party apps downloaded from the Google Play Store are going to be disabled.

  • With the device powered on, press and hold the Power button (located on the right edge) until the Phone options prompt appears then release.
  • Select and hold Power off until Restart in Safe Mode prompt appears, then release.
  • Tap Turn on Safe Mode.
  • The restart process may take up to 45 seconds to complete.
  • Upon restart, Safe mode appears in the lower left of the unlock/home screen.

You are going to have to stay in this mode for quite some time as you need to verify if your alarm works well in this mode. If you don’t encounter any issue then it’s probably an app or a group of apps that is causing the issue. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Aside from the above troubleshooting steps you can also verify your clock settings to see if it has been set properly.

  • Navigate to Clock > Alarm and tap the desired alarm. Check the day the alarm is set to. Put a checkmark for auto repeat. Make sure your alarm type is set to melody. Set your alarm tone to a volume that you can hear well. Turn off the location alarm if not needed. Enable snooze and Smart alarm.
  • Select Save after making any changes to the Alarm clock, otherwise your settings will be lost.
  • Uninstall any potential conflicting applications. Uninstall any clock widgets or third-party alarm applications. Uninstall any third-party task manager or application managers. Do not use any third-party task manager or application managers; they may cause the Alarm app not to work. Uninstall battery management software or other system managers.

Note 2 Bluetooth Range Decreased After Android KitKat 4.4.2 Update

Problem: Hi, since updating to kitkat 4.4.2 ota samsung update ,no rooting or custom rom etc. I have found that my bluetooth range is very poor , about 1 or 2 feet or less even. I use a Bluetooth music headset and needless to say it has ruined it for me. I wish I hadn’t updated. Range was 30 feet before update , maybe more! The only thing that puts the range back to normal is to enable wifi hotspot. Not ideal as this uses excessive battery and it turns itself off after a short while so I am constantly turning it back on. Any ideas for a better solution? Cheers

Solution: After performing a major software update on your phone and issues appear the best course of action is to always do a factory reset. These issues are usually caused by the data from the previous software version that is still stuck inside your device and hasn’t been completely removed. This causes a conflict with the new software version which causes all sorts of problems. Before performing a factory reset you should first backup your data as this will get lost in the process.

  • Turn off your phone (Make sure it is completely off. If possible take out the battery then place it back in)
  • With the handset turned off, press and hold the Volume Up key.
  • While holding down the Volume Up key, press and hold the Home key.
  • With both the Volume Up key and the Home key held down, press and hold the Power key.
  • Release all three keys when the Samsung logo appears.
  • Press the Volume Down key to scroll to wipe data/factory reset.
  • With wipe data/factory reset highlighted, press the Power key.
  • Press the Volume Down key to scroll to Yes –delete all user data.
  • With Yes –delete all user data highlighted, press the Power key.
  • Once the wipe is complete, press the Power key to select reboot system now.
  • The master reset is now complete. The handset will restart.

In most cases the issues that occurred after the update should be gone by now.

Note 2 FM Radio Automatically Turns Off

Problem: Hello, i own a SAMSUNG note 2 ,from last few days while listening  my FM radio it get suddenly  auto off, every time i tried to listen FM it work perfectly for some time and again get off. I have check setting , no auto off [timeing ]is applied. Please help me with this problem.  Thank you.

Solution: In order for the FM application to work properly certain conditions must be met. First the FM station you want to listen to should have a strong reception and second your headphones should be in good working order as this also serves as the antenna. Before troubleshooting make sure that your phone is running on the latest software update.

Here’s what you need to do. Tune in to a local FM station that is known to have a good reception. This way we can eliminate any issues that may be caused by the station itself. Next, if you have access to another pair of headphones try using it. Before plugging it in your device check the 3.5mm audio jack of your phone for any dirt or debris. Clean it using a toothpick if necessary.

If the issue still occurs despite using another headphone then it’s time to check if a certain app that you installed is causing the problem. To do this you would have to boot your device in Safe Mode. All third party apps that you installed from the Google Play Store will be disabled in this mode making it easy to isolate the problem.

Once in Safe Mode check on your FM app again. If the problem does not occur then it’s most likely caused by an app that you installed. You will have to perform a trial and error method in finding out what this app is and uninstall it.

If the issue still occurs in Safe Mode then you should try doing a factory reset on your phone. Just make sure to backup your data first as this will be erased in the process.

Once the factory reset has completed you should check your FM and see if it works normally. If it doesn’t then this might already be caused by a faulty hardware in which case you should bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 2 Internet Not Working On Custom ROM

Problem: hello droid-guy team i recently upgraded my note 2 from 4.3 to 4.4.2 using dn3 v5.2 custom rom, from then problem started all apps functions properly except my internet. I can browse videos, pictures etc but when it comes to download it just shows the downloading bar which never completes, but on wi-fi everything works great. Please help, it stopped my all important work.

Solution: What I understand about this issue is that you can download using Wi-Fi but not while using your mobile data. Try checking with your carrier first if there is no problem with their data network or your account. Since you upgraded your ROM chances are the correct Internet settings have not been configured on your device yet. Go to your mobile data settings and verify if you have the correct settings for your network.

  • From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap the Connections tab.
  • Tap More networks.
  • Tap Mobile networks.
  • Tap Access Point Names.
  • If you see an APN entry then tap on it and check the settings.
  • If there is no APN entry then tap the Menu key, and then tap New APN.

You will have to get the correct settings from your network provider.

Note 2 Tilt Feature Not Working In Games

Problem: Hi I am using note 2 from 1.5 years it’s a very good device thank you for making such a nice device. But recently I am facing some problem in it so want to discuss and need solution kindly help me please. While playing car or bike games which need rotation my tilting the screen the move is not happening it’s not turning any ways I guess my tilting option has been closed somehow so how can I start it back. It’s happening in all the games which need tilting of screen so that the vehicle can turn. My screen rotation is on but it’s also very slow in reacting. Kindly help me out.

Solution: The might be an issue with your phone software that is preventing its tilt feature to work properly. Since you are also experiencing a slow response on your screen rotation the best thing to do is to perform a factory reset on your phone. Just make sure to backup your data first before doing this as it will be erased in the process.

After performing a factory reset try do download a game from the Google Play Store such as Temple Run. This game uses a tilt based control system. If your tilt works fine now then the issue may be caused by some corrupted data in your phone that has already been removed.

If however the issue still persists then this might already be caused by a faulty hardware probably a sensor gone bad. In this case you will have to bring your device to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 2 “Samsung Password Confirmation” Randomly Pops Up

Problem: Hello, I’ve been getting Samsung “Password Confirmation” pop ups lately on my Note 2. Why am I getting these? I’ve confirmed my password but it comes back a week or so later. How do I get rid of this?

Solution: You can fix this by going to Settings, Accounts, Samsung Account, and if needed, Account Settings. You will be prompted to update your account profile. As soon as you update your profile the pop-up will stop. If however it does occur again do a factory reset on your device then update your account profile again. Make sure to backup your data first.

Note 2 Touchwiz Not Working

Problem: I recently did the update and now I wish I would have read the reviews first. I keep getting the Touchwiz error.  I have been getting the error message that says “Unfortunately Touch Wiz has stopped working” – your only option is to hit ok. When I hit ok, random screens start popping up everywhere. When I try to get out of them and go back to the main screen, as soon as I touch the main screen to swipe with finger or stylus, the error mag hits again. What can I do?

Solution: Go to Settings> General> Application manager >All> Touchwiz then tap Clear data. This should fix the issue.

Note 2 Gets Hot Even If Not Used

Problem: I have a Note 2 and I noticed recently that it gets hot even if it is doing nothing. Was sitting on my desk untouched for 3-4 hours and I picked it up and noticed that the back was pretty hot. Is this normal? Thanks.

Solution: There might be an app that is syncing its data in the background. Try to check the settings of your apps such as social media apps or email apps. Also check if certain services are turned on such as Wi-Fi, mobile data, Bluetooth or GPS. If they are turned on then apps will be able to use these services which could also be the reason why your phone gets hot. Try turning these services off and observe your phone if it still overheats.

To isolate any app related issues that is causing this problem try to boot your device in Safe Mode then observe it for a couple of hours. If it does not overheat then it is possible that an app is causing this problem. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.

To boot to Safe Mode

  • With the device powered on, press and hold the Power button (located on the right edge) until the Phone options prompt appears then release.
  • Select and hold Power off until Restart in Safe Mode prompt appears, then release.
  • Tap Turn on Safe Mode.
  • The restart process may take up to 45 seconds to complete.
  • Upon restart, Safe mode appears in the lower left of the unlock/home screen.

Note 2 Operates Very Slowly

Problem: Recently my Note 2 is working very slowly. This wasn’t the case previously. Typing text messages, opening the menu or even taking a photo takes some time to accomplish. There’s definitely a huge lag on my device. Is there an easy way to fix this?

Solution: As you use your phone for a long period of time you will notice that it does not perform as fast as it used to. This could be caused by the number of apps that are running on your device which eats up a lot of memory, old data that has not been cleared from memory, or even a faulty microSD card if your phone has one.

The fastest way to fix this issue is to simply reboot your device with the correct procedure detailed below.

  • Turn off your phone
  • Take out the battery
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 3 minutes (this will clear out any data that is stored in the RAM)
  • Re-insert the battery
  • Turn on your phone

If it is old data that is causing your phone to slow down then the above procedure should fix the issue.

If you are still having a problem then try uninstalling apps that you don’t regularly use as this may be using system resources.

You should also try to remove the microSD card from your phone if after uninstalling apps your phone is still slow.
