Halfbrick Studios, the makers of Fruit Ninja for Android have teased a major revamp to the app in an October update. Considering that the app has barely seen any changes over the past four years as far as functionality or user interface is concerned, the developers probably feel that a refresh is overdue. Halfbrick has clarified that there will be new menus, the ability to select from various blades or Dojos right before starting a game and a lot of other things different with this new version of Fruit Ninja.
Here’s what the team said in its public release:
“The team has thrown away the tired menu and UI designs, ensuring the steps between playing, equipping new gear, and using social features are all streamlined. Before starting each game, players can equip different Blades and Dojos, which were previously cosmetic only. Now, almost every item will have a unique effect on gameplay, which has effectively broken the score ceiling and added an exponential amount of depth and strategy to slicing. For example, the Great Wave dojo periodically spawns ten fruit at once, and the Autumn Blade creates a fruit-swirling tornado with every pineapple sliced. Players can mix and match their favorites, and leaderboard entries will display which combination of items were used.”
It is likely that the freemium model will not be ditched as it has proven to be quite lucrative for the developers. Even though Fruit Ninja is relatively old as far as Android games go, it still has a special place in our gaming library.
