T-Mobile Galaxy S3 Can’t Send Text Messages

Problem 1: Hi Harold, I’ve been following your support articles on The Droid Guy for quite some time now and I enjoyed reading those tips and solutions. You’ve already addressed hundreds of problems so it would take a lot of time for me to browse and find a specific issue that’s related to mine. For some reason my Samsung Galaxy S3 cannot send text messages anymore. I have unlimited plan for calls, texts and data so I’m sure it’s not my account. I’m with T-Mobile and this problem started about a couple of days ago. I really don’t know what happened but if you can help me, that would be greatly appreciated as I often send text messages to my children. Thanks. — Meriam

Problem 2: Hello Droid guys, thank you for providing free support to us users. I have a problem with my phone, Galaxy S3. I cannot send SMS messages. It’s been like this for more than a week now and I have no clue what caused this problem. Your insights will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. — Janice

Troubleshooting: Hello Meriam and Janice. So far, there is no known bug with the Galaxy S3 that could cause this problem. That said, this problem may be caused by incorrect settings in your phone or there’s an issue with the network. The following are my suggestions on how to troubleshoot this kind of problem.

Step 1: Place a voice call to any number in your contacts list. If you can make calls, then we’ll proceed with the troubleshooting. Otherwise, you need to address that problem first. If you can fix that, it is most likely you’ll resolve the problem with SMS messaging.

Step 2: Send a message to a different number. If this problem happens only when you send a message to a specific problem, there is a possibility that the problem is at the receiving end.

Step 3: Make sure the message centre number is correct. The message centre ensures that your SMS is sent to the recipient. If the number is incorrect, you cannot send SMS messages. Follow the steps below to check message centre number:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Apps, and then Messaging.
  2. Tap the Menu key and choose Settings.
  3. Scroll down and tap Message Centre.
  4. Enter the correct message centre number. If you don’t know it, call T-Mobile and ask for it. There could be different message centre numbers for prepaid and postpaid.
  5. Tap OK.
  6. Try sending a text message.

Step 4: Bring your phone in for checkup. If the troubleshooting steps I provided didn’t solve the problem, don’t hesitate to have the phone checked by T-Mobile technicians.

T-Mobile Galaxy S3 Can’t Install Apps

Problem 1: Hi, my phone cannot install apps from the Google Play Store. I remember there was some sort of updates about a couple of days ago. I accepted and installed it successfully but the this problem started to bother me. There is no error, but the progress bar just keeps going and going and Play Store doesn’t display the size of the app being downloaded like the way it was. I mean, when you download apps from the Play Store, the size will be displayed once you accepted the terms and conditions, then there is a progress bar to show the percentage. I cannot see that anymore. I left my phone downloading a small app for an hour, when I came back, it was still downloading. My internet connection is around 12mbps, so even a 2GB apps can be downloaded in a few minutes. I don’t know how to fix this, not really a techie guy. Help me, please. — Mike

Solution 1: Hey Mike, I encountered this problem countless times already and I know a solution for it–clearing the cache and data of the Download Manager. This solution is based on my experience but there is still a possibility it won’t work for you, it’s worth a try, though.

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the More tab.
  4. Tap Application manager.
  5. If necessary, swipe left or right to the All screen.
  6. Scroll to and tap Download Manager.
  7. Tap Clear data and then tap OK.
  8. Tap Clear cache.

If the procedure above won’t fix the problem, try this:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the More tab.
  4. Tap Application manager.
  5. If necessary, swipe left or right to the All screen.
  6. Scroll to and tap Google Play Store.
  7. Tap Uninstall Updates.

That should do it.

Problem 2: Hi Harold, I love your articles. Can you help me with my problem, please? My phone is a Galaxy S3, I get services from T-Mobile. I have unlimited plan for everything so I know it’s not my account. Whenever I’m downloading an app, there is an error that pops up–it’s the error 403. I already did a quick search online and I know I’m not the only one having this problem. It started about two days ago and I don’t know what caused this because I haven’t done anything that may have triggered the problem. Hoping for your response. — Matt

Solution 2: Hello Matt, sad to say there’s nothing you can do for now to fix the problem because the issue is on Google’s side. I know there were users who shared some ways to fix this but there’s no guarantee to that.

Back in February, I also encountered this problem with my mid-range phone. I didn’t do anything after reading a post online suggesting it’s a Google problem. The error 403 was gone after 3 to 4 days. It’s annoying you can’t download apps you want to install but there’s nothing we can do about that. Please wait it out.

Problem 3: Droid guy, good morning! Have you ever encountered a problem while downloading an app from the Play Store? The error message goes something like this “application cannot be installed in the default install location.” I don’t have microSD card installed on my phone, all apps are in the internal storage. Can you suggest a solution to this problem? — Miles

Solution 3: Miles, please check how much storage space left in your phone’s internal memory. I’m sure this problem is related to the phone’s storage. If there are apps you don’t use anymore, clear their cache and data and then uninstall them. Your photos and videos, too, move them to your computer or upload them online and delete copies in your phone’s memory. If you can resolve the storage problem with your phone, you can solve this problem for sure.

T-Mobile Galaxy S3 Can’t Connect To Wi-Fi

Problem 1: Hi, just recently my Galaxy S3 fails to connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot it used to connect. It just says ‘Remembered’ after ‘Obtaining IP Address’. Prior to this problem, though, the phone failed to boot up so I had to take the battery out for two minutes, place it back and turn the phone back on. It was successful but after a few hours, I found out the phone automatically shut down with 56% battery left. Help me out here, please. What’s the problem with my phone? — Johnson

Solution 1: Let me guess, you’re trying to connect to a Wi-Fi that’s not yours? I think the owner of the Wi-Fi network you’re trying to connect changed the password so your phone cannot authenticate and connect to it. But since it already connected to it before, it shows ‘Remembered’ when it stops connecting. If that’s not the case, however, you can fix this by letting your phone ‘Forget’ the network and let it scan again.

About the other issue, the automatic shut down, it that didn’t happen again then it could be just a glitch. A problem like that needs to be monitored so you would have an idea what’s happening with your device.

Problem 2: Good day, guys! I really need your expert advice on the bizarre problem I have with my Galaxy S3. If it matters, I get my service from T-Mobile. Now, the problem is that I cannot turn the Wi-Fi because the slider was greyed out. I think the slider was set to Off when it was greyed out so I can’t connect to any hotspot. How can I fix this problem? — Mel

Solution 2: Unless there’s a problem with the hardware that is used to receive radio signal, your issue is just a temporary glitch. I encountered this problem before but it wasn’t my phone. We had to boot the phone to safe mode, toggle the slider from there and boot back to normal mode. That seemed to fix the problem, so I want you to try that.

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key.
  3. When ‘Samsung Galaxy S III’ appears on the screen, release the Power key Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  4. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  5. ‘Safe mode’ will display in the bottom left corner of the screen. Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode.’

If booting to safe mode doesn’t fix the problem, try wiping the cache partition.

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key and Power key
  3. When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.
  7. With ‘reboot system now’ highlighted, press the Power key to restart the device.

T-Mobile Galaxy S3 Redownload Old Files

Problem 1: I have a strange problem with my Galaxy S3, it keeps downloading files I’ve downloaded more than a year ago and when I tap them from the notification bar, the phone displays nothing. I think it’s just saying that it downloaded the files but in reality the phone didn’t. So, how can I get rid of this ‘fake’ notifications?

Problem: 2: Hey Droid guy, I have an annoying issue with S3. From time to time I get the ‘Download Complete’ message on the status bar and when I check, nothing were actually downloaded. Why is this happening? How can I fix this problem?

Problem 3: Hi Harold, several times a day I get an icon at the top of the screen of my phone indicating something was downloaded. When I bring the notification panel down, there’s nothing there. I scoured my phone’s internal memory and there are no signs that something was downloaded. It’s extremely annoying problem. Can you help me with this? — Alice

Solution: There is only one solution to your problems guys. But before that, let me briefly explain why it happens. This problem often occurs after an update, which means some data may have been corrupted during the update process. Wiping the cache partition can also solve this problem, although, not guaranteed.

Another cause of this problem is that there’s an unfinished download. Say for example, you’re downloading a content but then the phone lost internet connection so download wasn’t finished. By the time the device is connected back to the internet, the download continues but since the phone cannot append the new download to the old one, it displays ‘Download Complete’ but the result is there isn’t a file that can be viewed.

The best solution to this problem is clearing the data of the Download Manager service:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the More tab.
  4. Tap Application manager.
  5. If necessary, swipe left or right to the All screen.
  6. Scroll to and tap Download Manager.
  7. Tap Clear data and then tap OK.

T-Mobile Galaxy S3 Can’t Open Some Apps

Problem 1: I believe it was the update that messed up my phone. It’s a Galaxy S3 and I’m with T-Mo. I recently updated my phone and it was successful. However, when I try to open apps I often use, they just flash on the screen and close. Sometimes I’m getting an error implying that an app has stopped and there’s no other option but to tap OK. One of the apps I’m having problems with is WhatsApp–it cannot load successfully.

Problem 2: Hello guys, thanks for this free support. My phone, an S3, recently caught a bug. It often displays error message like a certain app has stopped. I think it has something to do with the recent update, which, by the way, I had to download 3 times due to errors. How can I fix this problem?

Solution: I believe it’s a compatibility issue between the apps and the new firmware. While majority of apps from the Play Store are compatible with later Android versions, I think it’s apps’ data that were corrupted during the installation of the new firmware. To clear those data, go to the Application Manager and one-by-one open the apps you’re having problems with and clear their caches and data. If that doesn’t fix the problem, uninstall those apps and reinstall them That should do it.
