If Chinese reports are to be believed, Sony could be looking to launch the Smartwatch 3 at next month’s IFA 2014 event. This will be the company’s third attempt at the smartwatch as the name so clearly indicates and much like its predecessors, it will be based on the company’s custom skin and not on Android Wear. This is a bit odd as other manufacturers are rallying to team up with Google and launch Android Wear based wearables.
At this point, there’s no word on exactly how different the Smartwatch 3 will be compared to the predecessors, but it is likely that there will be some drastic changes keeping the competition in mind. It’s too early to figure out what exactly these changes are going to be, but we’re sure Sony still has a few tricks up its sleeves. The company has mentioned on a various occasions in the past that it intends to launch smartwatches based on its own skin rather than Android Wear, so clearly the company has a lot of faith in itself.
