Sony announces the Xperia M2 Aqua with a water resistant body

Xperia M2 Aqua

We’ve seen a myriad of water resistant smartphones launching over the past couple of years. And undoubtedly, Sony has been at the forefront of this technology. All flagships from 2013 including several midrangers have been water resistant. But the company’s latest device, the Xperia M2 Aqua takes it a notch further by being the world’s first smartphone to receive an IP 65/68 certification.

Roughly put, this is the best and the highest certification a a water resistant smartphone can get. Underneath the tightly concealed exterior, the Xperia M2 Aqua sports a 4.8 inch 960 x 540 resolution display, a 1.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 400 SoC, an 8-megapixel camera on the back, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage with a microSD card slot, Android 4.4.2 KitKat and a 2,300 mAh battery.

The smartphone will be launched in Asia, Europe and Latin American markets in the coming weeks with no word on the American launch as of yet. But with Sony starting to build a small presence in the U.S., we won’t be surprised if the device is made available soon.
