The LG G Watch was officially made available for purchase from July and has seen decent response since then. But according to a report from the Korea Times, the manufacturer will reportedly launch a newer variant of the smartwatch sporting an AMOLED display at the IFA event next month. Using an AMOLED panel could do a world of good for the device’s battery life as well as general visibility, considering these reports materialize.
Sources close to LG have also mentioned that the company is talking with the biggest watch manufacturers of the world for a possible collaboration to increase brand awareness. It will be interesting to see how that pans out. The processor inside the next gen G Watch will reportedly be of similar architecture as the predecessor, so expect no change in performance.
It’s a tad premature to speculate at the moment given that the IFA event is still a few weeks away, but considering that the Android smartwatch scene is still in its infancy, it makes sense for manufacturers like LG to make the most of it while the Moto 360 lands on the shelves later next month.
