This is not an indication though that this is a problematic device instead it is a sign that it is quite popular in the market. Most of the questions sent to us are very minor in nature that a simple reboot of the device will actually do the trick.

S4 Video Playback Issues

Problem: My s4 has falen too badly from the height of a car boot on road and scattered. the screen is safe and undamaged. but it has been showing led problem of not displaying complete vidoes while youtubing or vdo playing. the screen goes blank or black lines apoear n disappear. it gets cured when restarted. The problm is exaggerated aftr this accident, it had showed some signs after couple of such accidents before…please help !

Solution: It looks like the internal hardware of your device has suffered some physical damage due to the impact. The best way to resolve this is to bring your device to an authorized service center for checking.

Before bringing your device to a repair center you can perform a factory reset on it to eliminate any software related issues that may be causing the problem. Be sure to backup your data first.

  • Turn the phone off completely.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons.
  • Release the Power button when the phone vibrates but continue holding on to the Volume Up and Home buttons.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release both the Home and Volume Up buttons.
  • Using the Volume Down key, highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press the Power button to select it.
  • Using the Volume Down button again, highlight ‘delete all user data.’
  • Press the Power key to select it.
  • Once the reset is complete, choose ‘Reboot system now.’
  • Press the Power button to restart the phone.

S4 Slow 4G LTE Speed

Problem: I previously was an owner of an iphone 5 but someone stole my phone so i bought a galaxy s4. The first problem im having is that i dont get the same 4gLTE speed as my previous iphone. With the iphone i always was getting like 30Mb average, with the galaxy i only get 8Mb at peak sometimes less.. now in my home network with my ipad i get 19Mb and with the galaxy still the same cant pass the 8Mb test and sometimes disable my wifi because its too slow.. any help?

Solution: We understand how frustrating a slow connection speed can be. Since you are using a 4G/LTE connection have you checked on the bandwidth cap set by your network once you reach a specific amount of data? Most of the time if you have consumed a certain amount of data your speed will be significantly reduced.

You can also do a check as to what specific location you are getting low speeds. If you are getting 8Mb at your home but have a higher speed in your workplace then it might be an issue related with the cell tower. Try to contact your network provider regarding this issue.

With regards to the phone itself the quickest way to resolve any slow 4G/LTE connectivity is to do a factory reset. Just make sure to make a backup of your data first.

Once the factory reset has been accomplished make sure that you have the correct APN settings first then connect to the Internet using the 4G/LTE connection.

S4 Facebook Messages Shows Up In Default Messaging App

Problem: Good afternoon. I’ve got a galaxy s4.  In my message app ( the one that comes with this phone) i get text messages AND facebook messages. If i reply to a fb message in any way while on fb, all following replies will appear in my regular message folder. I hate this!  I only want text messages to appear here. How do i fix this? I deleted fb and re-loaded, turned off sync…  Nothing works and no one else i know has this issue.

Solution: What’s happening here is that you may have activated the Facebook Text feature. This allows Facebook to send you a text message whenever a notification arrives for your account. Try accessing your Facebook account using a browser on your PC. Go to Settings then on the left side search for Mobile and click on it. There is a setting there where you can set Text Messaging and Facebook Messages. You can deactivate it if it is activated.

On the phone side what you can also do is to try to clear the defaults of your apps. To do this go to Settings > Apps> search for the three dots and click on it. You will see an option that says Reset app preferences. Click on it.

The problem should be solved by now.

S4 Won’t Hang Up

Problem: Dear the droidguy, I recently acquired a galaxy s4, and the first thing i did was a total system reset and then updated it to the newest software kitkat. My problem is that sometimes I make a call, and the call does not connect and I can’t hang up. The only solution I have found is to reboot the telephone. Untill I reboot the phone I will not be able to make or recieve calls as I have a call open. Can this be related to the SIM-card, like an error on the card, or would you think this is related to the phone? Also would you happen to know of an app, like a task manager that would allow me to “kill” the hanging call?

Solution: There are various reasons why this is happening. Since you have already updated your system and did a factory reset then we can narrow down the causes to a hardware issue. This might be caused by a faulty proximity sensor in which case you will have to disable it. You could also activate the setting that allows you to end a call by clicking the power button. This could be set in the settings of the dialer app.

S4 Does Not Charge

Problem: As of this past Saturday my phone had been charging perfectly fine and all of a sudden it stopped. The phone doesn’t appear to be taking a charge (even though it says that it is). The battery % is going down even though the charger is plugged in. When I finally do get the battery % to go up it’s at an extremely slow pace. I have used only the supplied charger. Nothing seems to be in the charging port nor does it appear to be bent. This is quite frustrating.

Solution: Try taking out your battery and leaving it out of your phone for around 3 minutes. You should also continuously press on the power button during this time. Release the power button after 3 minutes then place back the battery. Turn on your phone and charge it. If it still does not charge normally then the battery may be faulty. Try using a new battery. Try using a different USB cable on your wall charger as well.

S4 Only Receives SMS When Someone Calls

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and for the past 3 days I have had this problem. I can send text messages as well as make phone calls; however, when someone texts me back I do not receive the text until they call me and I answer the phone. While I am on the phone my phone begins beeping and receiving all of the texts I had been sent that day. Anyone know what the problem could be? I have tried restarting my phone as well as doing all of the system updates but to no avail.

Solution: First try to confirm with your network if there are any issues in your area. If everything is normal then proceed with troubleshooting your device.

The quickest way to solve this is to do a factory reset. Just make sure to back up your data first.

If the issue still persists after this then try using another SIM on your device as this may be a SIM related issue.

S4 Black Spots On Camera

Problem: I’ve made some pics and videos and my camera has black spots. I cleaned the window and it still has the spots. When i take a picture zoomed the black spots move to its side (like you zoom into a pic and the edges disappear off the screen because the pic is getting bigger than your screen) Could this be a dirty camera or do I need a camera replacement for this? If it is dirty, is there a way how I can open the window from the camera to clean it?

Solution: Try shaking your phone a bit then take a photo? If the black spots move then it’s probably dirt that’s causing this. Check the outside of your camera lens for any dirt. If there are none present then the dirt may be located inside your device. Unfortunately there is no easy way of opening your phone and taking out the dirt. You will have to bring your device to an authorized service center for checking.

Just in case this may be a software related issue you may also want to try to download a third party camera app and take pictures with it. If the black spot still appears then this proves it must be dirt. If not then it might be an issue with the default Camera app. Clear the cache and data of the Camera app .

S4 Does Not Charge

Problem: I have a Samsung S4 and all of a sudden my phone won’t charge. I get the message. The connected charger is incompatible with this phone. To prevent damage to your phone, charging has been stopped. To continue charging, use the original charger and cable that were provided with the phone. I have already tried numerous things – switched the charger, tried as usb where it still won’t charge, even tried a factory reset of the phone and my phone still isn’t charging.

Solution: First make sure that you are using the original charger that came with the phone. Take out the battery. Check the charging port of the phone and the USB cord for any physical damages or dirt. With a cotton dipped in alcohol carefully clean the charging port on your phone and on the USB cord.

If the above steps do not work try using a different charger and battery. Make sure that they are made by Samsung and are compatible with your device.

One final step that could be done is to do a factory reset. Be sure to back up your data first.

S4 Does Not Turn On

Problem: My son’s S4 has just stopped working! I have one as well so we swapped batteries, his battery works fine in mine but my fully charged battery doesn’t make a difference in his. It doesn’t even appear to be charging when plugged in – just looks completely dead. Does anyone have any ideas?

Solution: Make sure you are using the original charger of the device. Inspect the charging port on the phone and the USB cord for any damages or dirt. If there are dirt present then clean it. Try charging using the wall charger and the USB port of a computer. Try pressing and holding the Volume up + Power + Home buttons simultaneously. See if you can get the Samsung logo to appear.

If all else fails then this might be a hardware issue (probably a defective power button) and he best way to resolve this is to bring your device to an authorized service center for checking.

S4 Qi Wireless Charging Randomly Turns On And Off

Problem: I bought a generic Qi wireless charging kit. It has a white receiver which you open up the back cover of the galaxy s4 and then fit the prongs in place. Then closed the back cover and put it on my charger pad. The charger pad is powered by my OEM Samsung 2A output adapter so that should be plenty of power. There are two lights, one red that is constantly on which I assume is the power light. The other light is green, but it flashes. I’m not sure if it is supposed to do this, but pretty sure it is not as my phone will display a popup notification that wireless charging is enabled. One second later, the popup is gone and the battery icon no longer shows the thunderbolt charging symbol. Another second later, the notification comes back and the battery icon shows the thunderbolt charging symbol. So both the charger pad flashes and my phone’s notification and battery charger icon appear and disappear every few seconds repeatedly, anyone know what is going on?

Solution: For wireless charging to properly work you have to position the phone and the charging pad close to each other and in such a way that it charges properly. Try moving your phone around the charging pad to get a position where the charging becomes stable. If you can’t get a position where you can charge your phone normally then the Qi wireless charging kit you bought may be faulty.

S4 Cannot Receive Calls Or SMS From People Not In Contacts List

Problem: A few people have recently told me they had called or texted, but no notifications showed up on my phone. I have since worked out that only people in my contacts can get through, and people not in contacts cannot. Any ideas how to fix this?

Solution: Your phone may be set in such a way that it blocks notifications from people not in your contact list. Try turning off Blocking Mode by going to Settings – My Device – Blocking Mode. This should solve the problem.

S4 Music, Photos Disappearing From SD Card

Problem: I have no idea how this might have happened, but 80% of my music and photo files are gone. I understand that there is supposed to be some way to recover these files, but I am at a loss to figure it out. I’ve looked at lots of ‘solutions’ online, and watched a number of instructive videos on You Tube. I’m not getting anywhere. Help???

Solution: First verify if the photos and music are indeed gone by connecting your phone to your computer using USB cord. Check on the folders of the SD card if they are indeed missing. If you haven’t deleted them then they will still be present. Simply copy then to your PC.
