Cannot Change Galaxy Note 3 Ringtone

Problem: Hi, I’m hoping you can help as I have a minor problem with my Note 3. I am trying to change the SMS tone and am following the right directions to do this, alas the tone will not change. I am still getting SMS but the tone is the default notification tone not the one I want. Any help would be appreciated as my son also has the Note 3 and can’t change his either. Thanks, Roseanne.

Solution: Hi Roseanne, please check if this problem happens to a specific contact because if it is, then you probably assigned a specific ringtone for that contact. Follow the steps below to change the ringtone:

  1. Press Home key and tap Contacts..
  2. Tap a contact to display it.
  3. Tap the Ringtone field and choose a ringtone. You can choose a ringtone preloaded on your phone, or tap Add to choose a sound from Music.
  4. Tap OK to assign the ringtone.

However, if the problem happens to all contacts, we really don’t know based on your message what the problem really is. So, I suggest you reset app preferences so they will be brought to their default settings.

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the General tab.
  4. Tap Application manager.
  5. Tap Menu key.
  6. Touch Reset app preferences.

I hope this helps.

Notifications Pop Up Suggesting An Outdated Firmware

Problem: Hi Droid Guy, Zuhaib here. I liked your articles regarding Note 3 Common issues. Nowadays I’m having a strange problem that whenever I start using any Internet app an error appears to upgrade my version but I’ve already updated to 4.4 KitKat. I don’t know from where it comes suddenly and its irritating me. Please guide me what should I do now? I’m attaching the screenshots of that error. Thanks!

Solution: Zuhaib, I saw the pictures you attached and the moment I laid my eyes on them that the problem you’re having is caused by push ads. Apparently, you’ve downloaded and installed a third-party app that brought along these pop-up ads. I don’t know which app it is but try to recall the most recent app installation you did.

You attached two pictures. The first one was saying something about ‘MobiSafe’ so that would be the first app you should uninstall. But before you actually hit the uninstall button, hit the Force Stop button first, then Clear Cache and Clear Data and then Uninstall.

The second picture was saying something about Solo Launcher. I’m not sure if you’re using this launcher on top of TouchWiz launcher, which came pre-installed with your phone. If you’re not using Solo Launcher, force-stop it, clear its cache and data and uninstall it.

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the General tab.
  4. Tap Application manager.
  5. Swipe left or right to view contents of All tab.
  6. Tap the desired application.
  7. Tap Force Stop.
  8. Tap Clear Cache, and then Clear Data, OK.
  9. Tap Uninstall button.

Galaxy Note 3 Call Problem

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9000. Have it for about 6 months. I find when someone calls or I answer putting the phone too close to my ear it will disrupt the call or cause it to disconnect. Help! — Ted

Solution: Ted, based on your description, I really can’t extract information that may lead to a conclusion that could help solve this problem. If the screen of the phone, however, doesn’t turn off when you put the phone near your face, then the call may be disconnected of disrupted when your skin touches the screen. Therefore, set the phone to turn its screen off when it detects it’s near your face. Here’s how…

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings and then Device.
  3. Tap Call, and then tap Turn off screen during calls to enable or disable the setting.

However, if the phone’s screen doesn’t touch your skin but the call is still disrupted or disconnected, the Air Gesture may be causing it. Try disabling Air Gesture commands to see if the problem still persists.

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings and then Controls.
  3. Tap Air Gesture and touch the slider from On to Off.

“Can’t find a network” Error on Galaxy Note 3

Problem: When I listen to mp3 files, or audio books, I am constantly interrupted by “I can’t find a network connection”. Of course it can’t since I shut off Wi-Fi, and data on purpose to save battery life. It happens when I move around or bend down on my busy job. If I stand perfectly still or put on a table, I can use this damn phone. Before I toss this out the window can you help? I shut off everything I can find on this phone, even in airplane mode I get this interruption. 3 android forums and my service provider can’t help with this. You’re my only hope Ob1. Thanks, Paul.

Solution: Hey, Paul. How I wish we have all that jedi tricks so we can fix your problem without even doing something. But the reality is you have to do something to, at least, troubleshoot the problem. I got a couple of logical procedures here for you:

  1. Boot to Safe Mode. By doing so, you will know if it’s a third-party app that’s saying it “can’t find a network connection.” If that’s the case, then it would be so easy to fix the problem; just find and uninstall the app. To know which app is causing it, boot back to normal mode and play your mp3 files as usual and if that error prompts, go to the Application Manager and take note of third-party apps under the “Running” tab.
  2. Wipe cache partition. If the problem still happens even if you’re in safe mode, it means that the problem is caused by one of the pre-installed apps. You cannot uninstall those apps unless you’re rooted, so the best thing to do is wipe the cache partition so the phone would be forced to cache new files for each app. If the problem, however, persists even after doing this procedure, consider doing factory reset.

Oh, before I forget, if you’ve enabled S Voice on your phone, try disabling it while all connectivity is off. I have a feeling it’s an S Voice thing.

Multiple Serious Issues With Galaxy Note 3

Problem: Hi, my phone worked perfectly until I had it fixed at a shop due to network connectivity issues. I wasn’t sure if the problems started after that, but I also performed wipe data/factory reset twice since the connectivity problem returned after a couple of days. Since then I started noticing these problems.

1. Video recording doesn’t work and gives the error message “warning: recording failed”. Even on Instagram, video recording feature doesn’t work.

2. Multi window doesn’t work and says “flashbar service has stopped”. I already tried clearing cache and data on flashbar but still doesn’t work.

3. My mobile data doesn’t work anymore. I can connect to wifi just fine. When connecting to mobile data, it used to give me the message to turn my roaming on, but when I turn it on, nothing still happens. Now there is no roaming message anymore but nothing happens when mobile data is turned on. The signal bars/icon on top of the screen doesn’t even show up.

4. My S Memo is not working anymore. I can enter the app but when I try to create a new note or click on anything, it gives me the message “Unfortunately, S Memo has stopped”.

I already did factory settings reset twice (I think) but it didn’t help.

Please help me find a solution to these problems. These features are very important in a phone. I would really appreciate your response. Thank you. Regards, Angelique.

Solution: Hi there, Angelique. If you had your phone checked due to network connectivity, then you weren’t experiencing all these problems before. I may sound like I’m quick to blame all this to the tech who attempted to fix your phone but the truth is, a lot could happen during troubleshooting. That is why, it is advised you ask the tech what he did to the phone after the repair. But it seems to me you didn’t ask the tech what the problem was and were satisfied when told the problem was fixed.

Honestly, the first thing that came to my mind when I read the first problem you cited here was that the problem is with the microSD card. But when I finished reading your message, I am almost sure it’s a firmware issue. Both the flashbar service (multi-window feature) and S Memo are pre-installed apps, thus, they are bound to the firmware. And the mobile data problem, well, the service that handles radio reception and transmission may have also been messed up. In short, standard troubleshooting like factory reset wouldn’t work.

If I were you, I will write down the version of Android that’s running on your phone right now together with the baseband and bring the phone back to the shop where you brought it the first time. It’s a back job!

One way to fix this is to download the firmware with the same exact version and baseband and flash it into your phone using Odin.

Galaxy Note 3 Can’t Format SD Card

Problem: Hi, my galaxy note 3 is note accepting any memory card I have tried several of them with different sizes. I get a message says sd card is blank or has unsupported file system. I click on it, it asks if I want to format the sd card. After formatting the card I get the same message again (sd card is blank or has unsupported file system) please help. Thanks, Majed.

Solution: Hello Majed. The solution to this problem is to let your computer or laptop format the SD card for your phone. Use the FAT32 format. Once done, mount the card and it should work.

Third-party App Crashes On Galaxy Note 3

Problem: I like a app called pipe puzzle, the problem is ill install it and it’ll work, then the next time I go to play it says “unfortunately, pipe puzzle has stopped” then you can either report problem or click OK to move on. But no matter how you do to get to play you get that response. I have reinstalled several times to be able to play then the next time I go to play same issue again. I have reported it several times but nothing gets done. Help. — Kirk

Solution: Kirk, it’s apparently a compatibility issue and unless the developer did something to fix that, there’s nothing we can do.

If it were a compatibility issue, how come the app can still be installed? Well, the app is obviously working with the version of Android that’s on your Galaxy Note 3 as far as installation is concerned. However, the problem enters when the phone requires the app to load data from previous sessions. That is why, you can use the app after you installed it but not after you closed it.

Again, it the developer’s job to update the app. All you can do is report the problem.

Facebook App Stopped Displaying Notifications on Note 3

Problem: So I have a note 3 that with the Facebook app I no longer have my notifications showing up in the notification bar everything is turned on. They were working then stopped. Is there a solution to get them back since it is nice to get them. Very frustrated. My wife has an android and she gets her. I love my note 3 but I hope this is fixable or I will have to go with a new manufacturer. — Micah

Solution: Micah, maybe the ‘Show notification’ in the app’s settings page was disabled. Here’s how you enable it back…

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings, then the General tab.
  3. Tap Application manager.
  4. Swipe left or right to display contents of the ALL screen.
  5. Tap Facebook.
  6. Underneath the Force Stop button, there’s a little checkbox that says ‘Show notifications,’ put a check in it.

If this procedure wouldn’t work, try clearing the cache and data or uninstall the app and download a fresh copy from the Play Store and install it. Any one of these procedures should work.

GApps Process Stopped on Galaxy Note 3

Problem: On my Galaxy Note 3 I keep getting the message “Unfortunately, the process has stopped.” How do I repair this?

Solution: I got two procedures for you follow, I hope these could help you.

The first is to disable and enable back the Download manager. I encountered this problem a lot of times already and this procedure works almost all the time.

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings, then the General tab.
  3. Tap Application manager.
  4. Swipe left or right to display contents of the ALL screen.
  5. Tap the Downloads (if there are two Downloads options, choose the one with Android or green robot icon).
  6. Tap Disable, and then tap Enable to turn the service on again.

The second procedure, on the other hand, is some kind of a general troubleshooting procedure as it will reset every app that’s installed on your phone. Nevertheless, it’s effective. Here’s how…

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings, then the General tab.
  3. Tap Application manager.
  4. Tap the Menu key.
  5. Tap Reset app preferences.

Please note that this problem is not exclusive to Galaxy Note 3, it also happens to Galaxy S3 and the new Samsung Galaxy S5.

Galaxy Note 3 Deleted Photos After Possible Update

Problem: Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and for months now it always came up with this reminder to install something, it came up every time the phone would get switched off and back on and a few times daily, I would ways just clicked not now and it would come up with a reminder for 30 mins, 1 hour and 3 hours. It didn’t say what exactly the update was for but I accidentally clicked on it last night to install and it automatically turnt my phone off and started updating to 100%. It had the android mascot thing and said it was installing something, it then had to update 144 applications and when it was back on all my photos that I’ve taken with the camera were gone!! All the ones I’ve saved off Facebook etc are there but ones I’ve physically taken with the phone were not. My key pad is now different and some of my apps and games have uninstalled. I would like a solution to get my photos back as there are some very important photos I would like back.

Solution: That could have been a firmware update bugging you. Now, about your photos, if they were saved in your microSD card (if you have one mounted on your phone), then they must still be there. If your phone can’t read from the card, unmount it and let your computer or laptop read from it. However, if those photos were saved in your phone’s internal memory, they might still be there. Try going to your phone’s storage then enter the folder labeled DCIM; that’s where you can find your photos.

There are times when an update can trigger factory reset. If this is the case and your photos were saved in your phone’s internal storage, then they’re gone. If, however, you’ve synced them via Samsung Link, Google Photos or Dropbox, you can still retrieve them. I hope this helps.
