How To Fix Common Xperia Z1 Problems and Errors

Xperia Z1 Wi-Fi Issues

Problem: I bought Xperia Z1 two months back. Its a very good mob, no doubt. But the problem is with wi-fi. It takes a lot of time to connect and once its connected it gets disconnected also. Wi-fi is from my parent’s room. I have to be in that room to enjoy my wi-fi. When i go to my room, it gets disconnected. I am really fed up of this. Another problem is with the packet data. Its gets consumed very fast. I activated 1gb plan. Within 3 days the remaining was 206mb. I could not afford to activate such offers everytime. Please help me in this regard.

Solution: Are you also experiencing the same Wi-Fi issue with another Android device? If so then it must be a router issue. Try to check your router settings such as firewall or MAC filtering if they are enabled. Try to disable them and connect to your wireless network. Routers usually have working range of a couple of meters and the wireless connection will generally be available anywhere in the house. The signal however will degrade if there are obstacles such as concrete walls. If there is a considerable obstacle between your room and your parent’s room then it’s not unusual to experience a low signal strength or even disconnections.

To check if it is a phone issue try to connect your device to another Wi-Fi hotspot and see if it still disconnects on its own.

Regarding your packed data if your 1GB plan gets consumed rapidly then there must be several apps in your device that are connecting to the Internet. Check and see if any app is synching automatically and try to set it to manual synching. Apps that stream online content will also consume a lot of data. These include video streaming apps such as YouTube or music streaming apps such as Spotify. If you would like to stream content then consider doing it on a Wi-Fi connection.

Xperia Z1 Deleting Contacts

Problem: My Z1 has been deleting contacts by itself for no reason whatsoever, and can’t figure out why, I don’t want to have to do a factory reset, but it’s getting to the point I’m missing important phone numbers, what do you think it could be? Thank you for your time.

Solution: Check if your contacts are connected to an app such as Skype. If you delete a contact information on Skype then it will delete the contact from your phone book too. If your phone book is synched online then there’s also the possibility of your phone book contacts being changed if the synched data online changes.

Xperia Z1 Phone Dialer Missing

Problem: I have a Z1 which I recently purchased. This is actually my first Android device jumping over from iOS. My question is that I can no longer see my phone dialer. It used to be located at the bottom right of the screen but now it’s gone. The other icon has also disappeared that is on extreme bottom left. So if you think you have any idea how to restore if it was lost due to some inadvertent activity especially my children playing games on it. They may have done something by mistake please help.

Solution: You might have accidentally dragged the phone dialer to trash. To return it to its original position find the phone dialer icon in your apps then long press it and drag it to your home screen. This procedure works with any app that you may want to place on your home screen.

Xperia Z1 Camera Issue

Problem: I bought some casings for Z1. But I realized that with the casing on the phone, every time when I take pictures with flash, the pictures appear to be more whitish… Sometimes it happens, sometimes not. I tried taking the same shot without the casing and is perfectly ok. Wonder if the camera hole opening in the casing is blocking the flash because the opening is quite close to the camera flash? But at times, the pictures appear to be ok. Don’t know what’s wrong, phone or casing? Anyone experience this?

Solution: Try checking if the condition exists when the case is removed. If the photos aren’t whitish then it’s the case that is causing it. The flash may be bouncing light back to the camera lens due to the close proximity of the case. Try buying another type of case that doesn’t cause this issue.

Xperia Z1 Negative Screen

Problem: A couple of days ago I went to the swimming pool and even though everything was firmly shut, some water got into the sim card and sd card slots, along with some condensation on both cameras. As a result, I kept everything in rice overnight and all the water went by the next morning. As I turned my screen on, a bluish tint spread across the whole thing, and started flickering while I was on the lock screen. I turned it off and later in the evening when I checked it, it was normal for a few seconds after which the same thing happened. It gradually worsened. As of now, the WHOLE screen is negative, and there is no option in the Accessibility section to reverse it, if that is the problem. Nothing else is wrong and I restored my phone to factory settings, with no change. Please help.

Solution: This could already be caused by a hardware issue. The water may have shorted the circuitry that controls the way the display works. Your best option is to bring your device to an authorized service center and have its hardware checked.

Xperia Z1 Does Not Update

Problem: I just bought a brand new Xperia Z1  I ran the first update fine (681 I think), then it notified me that I had another update, 14.3.A.0.757. Whenever I would try to update, it will just keep on downloading the file then give me an error saying “Could not verify.” I never had this problem updating a phone (been an android user for 4 years), so I don’t know what’s wrong. My internet connection is excellent. The phone is also not rooted, I only had it for less than a day. The only major thing I did (which is hardly major) is uninstall some of its stock apps which had the option to be uninstalled (like twitter etc. not the sony apps) Any tips? Thanks!

Solution: Try doing a hard reset on your device first then check for any new updates. Make sure to backup your data first.

To do a hard reset

  • Turn off your Xperia Z1.
  • You can do this by pressing power button and choosing “power off” or by holding the power key for about 15 seconds.
  • Now reboot by pressing the power button; when the LED notification light turns Pink (or any other color in that matter) press volume up  button
  • Recovery mode will be entered on your Xperia Z1.
  • From there select “wipe data factory reset”.
  • Select “wipe cache partition”.
  • From main menu of recovery select “reboot system now”.

Now check and see if you can download and install the update.

If you still can’t download the update then try updating your device using a computer running the latest PC Companion software.

  • Connect your phone to the computer using a USB cable.
  • On the computer launch the Sony PC Companion which will start checking updates for your device
  • You will be notified of any update. Click Update to continue
  • Click Accept
  • Wait for the update to be downloaded
  • Disconnect USB cable and follow the on screen instructions on your phone.
  • Wait for the update to be installed

Xperia Z1 Battery Life Reduced In KitKat

Problem: On jellybean my battery life was great, then after upgrading to kitkat it went down noticeably and appreciably but then with the sound bug fix which also fixed some other issues, it improved a bit. But now my battery life is erratic. If I use my phone then it drops by 10% every 20 minutes or so. And by use I mean Internet browsing, Facebook, whatsapp and snapchat (barely any phone calls, weird I know). But if I don’t then it stays more or less stagnant as is expected. Now I noticed one more thing which is of interest. At night I turned off my wifi and location settings and battery stayed at the same percentage (wow!) meaning the wifi and or gps must be using the most battery. Additional: my location settings is set to wifi and network only (battery saving Mode);I keep auto sync off for EVERYTHING; I one flipboard widget on my third homescreen; my brightness stays mostly below 50% ;nfc and bluetooth always off; zero use of 3g or mobile data . I forgot to ask my question after stating everything. What might be the cause of my extraordinary battery drain while keeping the screen on? Problem with Sony or something fixable? ALSO IF SOMEONE COULD TELL ME IF CHANGING WHITE BALANCE SETTINGS AFFECTS BATTERY LIFE THAT WOULD BE GREAT.

Solution: Whenever you are faced with issues concerning your device right after a major update it is always a good idea to hard reset the device. This allows your phone to clear out the old data in your device that may be causing the issue. Be sure to backup your data first.

  • Turn off your Xperia Z1.
  • You can do this by pressing power button and choosing “power off” or by holding the power key for about 15 seconds.
  • Now reboot by pressing the power button; when the LED notification light turns Pink (or any other color in that matter) press volume up  button
  • Recovery mode will be entered on your Xperia Z1.
  • From there select “wipe data factory reset”.
  • Select “wipe cache partition”.
  • From main menu of recovery select “reboot system now”.

Once the hard reset has finished try to observe your battery performance and see if it improves. Battery life will depend on how you use your device. The more services or apps running then the more power your device will consume. Changing the display brightness will have an effect on battery life. As for the white balance setting it will have a minimal effect on battery life.

Xperia Z1 Walkman App Cannot Detect Music From SD Card

Problem: I listen to alot of music on the go, so bought myself a “micro SD HC 10 64GB” So i transfered all my data (music, photos, ETC) but when i went into the “walkman” app i got a message saying no music. Is there something i’m doing wrong? all music played fine before i did the transfer, it just seems to be since i moved them to the SD card. File types i’m using is ( .Wma .MP3 .M4A)

Solution: Try inserting your SD card to a computer and see if you are able to see and play the music files. If no music files can be detected then there might have been a problem during the copy process. Try reformatting the SD card then copy the music again.

However, if the music files can be detected by your computer then the issue may either be with the SD card or your phone. Turn your phone off then reinsert the SD card. Turn on your phone and check if it can detect your SD card. Verify if the phone can detect the SD card normally by taking a photo and storing the photo in the SD card. Open the Walkman app and see if you can detect the music files. If no music files are present then try clearing the cache and data of your Walkman app.

  • Tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Application manager.
  • Tap the All tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the Walkman app
  • Tap Clear cache.
  • The application cache is now cleared.
