Note 3 “google.process.gapps” Error

Problem: On my Galaxy Note 3 I keep getting the message “Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped”. How do I repair this?

Solution: Whenever you get this type of error message it means that something is wrong with your Google apps. The good news is that this can easily be fixed. The first thing that you will need to concentrate on is to try to see if it is the Google Play Store that is causing this by clearing its cache and data.

  • Tap on the Settings icon
  • Touch the More tab.
  • Tap on the Application Manager.
  • Swipe left twice to display contents of the All tab.
  • Scroll to and tap Google Play Store.
  • Tap Force Stop button.
  • Tap Clear Cache button.
  • Tap Clear Data button, and then OK.

You will then need to check if the error message still appears. Chances are it won’t appear anymore. If it does appear then you may want to uninstall the updates of the Google Play Store app and restart your device.

  • Tap on the Settings icon
  • Touch the More tab.
  • Tap on the Application Manager.
  • Swipe left twice to display contents of the All tab.
  • Scroll to and tap Google Play Store.
  • Tap Uninstall Updates
  • Restart device

If the above steps do not work then you might want to reset your application preferences.

  • Tap on the Settings icon
  • Touch the More tab.
  • Tap on the Application Manager.
  • Swipe left twice to display contents of the All tab.
  • Tap the Menu key.
  • Touch Reset app preferences.
  • Tap Reset apps.

Note 3 “-24 unknown error code” On Facebook App

Problem: I have a note 3 and had problems with Facebook,  so I deleted it, of course without thinking to clear data,  and went to download it again, only to get the “-24 unknown error code” when it goes to finish installing it. I read your answer on your site…but I’ve looked everywhere on my phone and can’t find a trace of Facebook on it. I’ve been using Facebook through my firefox browser, so it’s not a huge deal, but it is aggravating sometimes. Anything I can do?

Solution: This error message pops up when Android thinks that the app is already gone from your device however some of its files still exist. The ideal way to solve this is to find the folder in your phone where Facebook is installed and delete it. This is however a tricky procedure. The easier fix is the shotgun approach where you perform a factory reset on your device. You will have to make a backup of all your data first before performing the procedure below.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘delete all user data.’
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.

Note 3 S Health Not Working

Problem: Hey. so I just brought a new samsung note 3 and my walking mate on the s health doesn’t seem to be working. On my galaxy s4, I could just automatically start and stop the pedometer without having to sync with any Samsung gear. The one on the note, the want me to sync it before I start and the sync button doesn’t respond. What should I do? I depended on pedometer so much with the galaxy. If it’s not fixable is there a substitute app that’s almost the same? Thanks

Solution: First try to check if your Note 3 has any new software updates. If there are then install them. The updates may contain new features that will allow you to easily sync your device with the Samsung Gear.

Before troubleshooting your device do a soft reset first

  • Turn your phone off.
  • Remove the battery. After 30 seconds, reinsert the battery.
  • Turn your phone back on.

Since this issue mostly concerns the S Health app you will want to clear its cache, data as well as uninstall and reinstall its updates.

  • Tap on the Settings icon
  • Touch the More tab.
  • Tap on the Application Manager.
  • Swipe left twice to display contents of the All tab.
  • Scroll to and tap S Health.
  • Tap Force Stop button.
  • Tap Clear Cache button.
  • Tap Clear Data button
  • Tap Uninstall updates

Make sure your device is connected to the Internet and reinstall the updates to the app. Most of the time the problem will be gone.

Note 3 GPS Stopped Working

Problem: Hi, I was wondering if you knew a way to fix my gps on my Verizon note 3.  It stopped working about 2 months ago. Thanks

Solution: By not working I’m assuming that it is trying to locate a signal but it can’t. Try to activate your GPS outdoors and see what happens. Does it still try to pick a signal? The reason why we are trying to activate your GPS outdoors is because it is easier to get a lock on the satellites since there won’t be any obstructions.

If the GPS is still not working then follow the troubleshooting steps below. After performing each of the steps check your GPS and see if it works.

Check for any software updates for your device. A new update may be released that contains improvements and fixes for your GPS.

Do a soft reset on your device

  • Turn your phone off.
  • Remove the battery. After 30 seconds, reinsert the battery.
  • Turn your phone back on.

Boot your device in Safe Mode. This helps us determine if a third party app is causing this issue.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, release the Power key. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • ‘Safe mode’ will display in the bottom left corner of the screen. Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode.’

When in Safe Mode if you can now get a GPS signal then you may want to find the app that is interfering with your GPS and uninstall it.

If all else fails then the final step you can do is to perform a factory reset.

Your GPS should be working fine right after this procedure. If not then this might already be a hardware issue and in this case you will have to bring your device to an authorized service center for further checking.

Note 3 Camera Lag

Problem: I figured I’d write a quick email and find out if you/whomever had any insight on this, but with regards to the Note3 issues that some folks seem to experience, have you ever heard of any issues whereby the camera lag cannot be fixed?  I have a Note3, purchased late last year and it’s worked fine all along; not rooted, updated to the latest firmware, etc.  In March or so, the camera just got slow.  Reformatted twice and even on stock everything without reinstalling any apps, the camera always takes 3-4 seconds to take a photo; no difference as to whether or not it’s saving to a card or internal memory, and even on the smallest jpg size, results are the same.

Solution: Try turning off Smart Stabilization. This is a feature that takes multiple images and combines them to minimize noise. The photo turns out great however the downside is that you may notice a certain lag. By turning off this feature the reaction time of the camera will be much quicker.

  • Open Camera App
  • From the Camera screen tap settings
  • Under Photos search for Smart Stabilization and turn it off

Note 3 ChompSMS Won’t Stay As Default

Problem: ChompSMS is my messaging app of choice, but it seems like my Verizon Note 3 doesn’t think so. I’ve already uninstalled Contacts+ because it kept wanting to override ChompSMS. It seems like I’m going to have to uninstall Hangouts, too, as it is trying to override my text app. How can I make my choice stick? I shouldn’t have to delete my favorite apps in order to keep the defaults I set up. Thanks for the help.

Solution: You might want to check if there is a newer version of ChompSMS. To do this just uninstall the app then install it from the Google Play Store. When you try to send an SMS your device will ask you which app you would like to use. Choose always for ChompSMS.

Note 3 Camera Color Issues

Problem: Hi, my front facing camera on my note 3 has started giving my pictures a red color. I have to hold it a certain way to get a decent picture, or I have to take the picture quickly before it focuses. It’s fine for a split second but once it focuses, the camera makes everything look red. Can you help?

Solution: Are you using a phone case or a screen protector on your device? I’m asking this since most of the time when the light getting into the front camera gets obstructed photos don’t come out great. Dirt or oil may also produce this effect so try to check the front camera lens if it is clear.

If the camera lens is clear then you can start checking the software side of your device. The quickest way to check if a third party app is causing this issue is to boot your device in Safe Mode and then take a picture using your front camera.

To boot your device in Safe Mode

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • When ‘GALAXY Note 3′ appears on the screen, release the Power key. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • ‘Safe mode’ will display in the bottom left corner of the screen. Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode.’

If in Safe Mode the front camera works fine then you may want to find the app that is causing the problem and uninstall it. If however you are still experiencing the same problem then this could already be a hardware issue and in which case you will have to bring your device to an authorized service center for checking.

Note 3 Scrapbook Not Showing Links

Problem: Hi thedroidguy, I have encounter some problems on my scrapbook in note 3. It doesn’t show links in my scrapbook only show the portion of the image where I circle. Hope you could assist me to solve this issues if you know. Many thanks in advance. Best regards

Solution: Most owners of the Note 3 who have experienced this problem say that it occurs if Chrome is being used however the problem disappears if Samsung’s browser is used. This issue could be caused by an update to Chrome. Try uninstalling your Chrome app then install it again. Scrapbook should work fine by now. If not then we will have to wait if the next Chrome update will have a fix for this. In the meantime try using the Samsung browser first.
