Sony Xperia Z1 Compact arrives in the US for $550

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact arrives in the US, available from Sony's website

With the Xperia Z1 Compact, Sony is the only Android manufacturer that has been able to make a truly high-end Android smartphone at a size that’s similar to the iPhone’s, but the lack of the company’s presence in the US has meant that buying the Z1 Compact hasn’t been possible for most. Thankfully, that’s finally changing, as Sony is now offering the Xperia Z1 Compact for purchase from its US website.

The phone is priced at $549.99, which isn’t the cheapest around but is still a great price for the hardware it offers. We’re talking about a 4.3-inch display of 720p resolution, a quad-core 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage expandable via a microSD slot, a 20.7-megapixel Sony G Lens camera, IP58 water and dust resistance, LTE connectivity (at least on T-Mobile and AT&T), a 2,300 mAh battery, and Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Not the latest and greatest, but for a phone that size, there really isn’t any alternative available, except for Apple’s iPhone.
