Runtastic and RunKeeper apps now compatible with Android Wear

Android WearFitness buffs will be glad to know that Android Wear has finally received the Runtastic and RunKeeper apps. With these new fitness oriented apps, users will be able to trigger a series of voice guided commands for bike rides or runs without having to pull out the smartphone.

Below is the changelog for the Runtastic app:

  • Start a run or bike session via voice command.
  • Read your favorite stats from your wrist.
  • Display your post-workout session details, including maps, on Android Wear.

There’s no access to the changelog or the feature set of RunKeeper at the moment, but we should have that very soon. Other fitness apps are expected to join the list in time for the commercial release of Android Wear with the LG G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live.

Fitness apps like these have great potential on wearables as customers don’t need to use their smartphones every time they want to log a running or a cycling session. The idea behind Android Wear is to make the users’ lives a lot simpler and easier. And these two new apps are evidence to that.
