Pre production variant of the Moto X+1 spotted in images

Moto X+1 Front

The Moto X+1 appears to be nearing launch with leaks increasing in frequency. And a series of new images sent to the folks over at Android Police has revealed what could possibly be an early pre production prototype of the handset. It’s clear that Motorola has drastically changed the design from the Moto X with the aluminum chassis being used in favor of plastic.

The rest appears to be the same as the predecessor, including the custom wooden back panel. It is said that Motorola will also have leather options this time around. Interestingly, Motorola has chosen to go with a front facing speaker much like the Moto E, which is a welcome addition compared to the Moto X.

Moto X+1 Back

The Motorola logo on the back appears to be forged into the wood, which looks a bit odd to be honest. Other changes include the placement of the dual LED flash accompanying the camera, which is now on either side of the sensor. Sadly, there’s not much trimming down of the side bezels as we had hoped. It is said that the SIM card tray is located on the top with the Moto X+1 right next to the 3.5mm headphone jack, which is another change from the Moto X.

Leaks have suggested that the smartphone will pack a 5 inch 1080p display, a 12-megapixel camera on the back, a quad core Snapdragon 800 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage (no microSD card slot) and a 2,900 mAh battery. Motorola is expected to announce the smartphone soon along with availability of the Moto 360 smartwatch.
