Moto Maxx moniker trademarked by Motorola

Moto Maxx USPTO

Motorola is known for its Moto X and Moto G smartphones since recently. However, the company is also widely popular for its Maxx series of smartphones launched exclusively under the Droid brand by Verizon. And it seems like Motorola could soon have a global version of the popular Maxx smartphone for all, according to a trademark listing. The company has trademarked the Moto Maxx moniker with the USPTO, suggesting that a Moto X like offering could be in the making. Of course, being a Maxx device would either mean it has a massive display or a large battery or perhaps both.

It is likely that Motorola has decided to make the series more mainstream rather than confining it to just one carrier, which seems like a logical move. Up until now, the Droid Maxx series of handsets haven’t seen widespread global release, but that could change soon if the Moto Maxx ever materializes. A trademark application is usually a hint that a device is in the making, although we wouldn’t get our hopes up just yet since there’s no confirmation from the manufacturer.

Motorola has been rumored to be working on a phablet like offering for quite some time now, with reports even suggesting that the next Nexus smartphone (codenamed Shamu) will be made by the company sporting a 5.9 inch display, so it’s likely that the company will have something for its fans prior to the Nexus unveiling. All of this is mere speculation at this point though, so we suggest you take it with a grain of salt. But we do like the sound of a device called Moto Maxx. What do you think?
