Galaxy S3 Random Shutdown

Problem: Hello, My Samsung Galaxy S3 is about two years old now. Since a few weeks there is a strange problem. Sometimes it just randomly shuts down, and shows the starting screen (“Samsung Galaxy S3” – white words on black background), then it goes all black and then starting screen reappears. It is always about 10 sec startscreen, 10 sec black screen, this goes on forever. The only way to stop it is to take my batery out and put it back in, but the problem comes back a few minutes, hours or days later, it seems completely random. I dont know what to do, do you have any ideas? Kind regards.

Solution: Since you mentioned that your device is already 2 years old then there could be lots of system data stored in it. Sometimes when your phone updates its software the old data which normally should be taken out from the device still remains and this causes a conflict which usually manifests into problems such as this. Another possible cause is a faulty SD card which may cause the phone to reboot. Since it is easier to check on the SD card try removing it first and observe your device if it still randomly reboots, if it does then you will want to perform a factory reset on your phone. Make sure to backup all of your important data first.

  • Turn the phone off
  • With the phone still off, hold down the ‘Power’, ‘Volume Up’ and ‘Menu’ buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds. Release them when you see the green android logo. This’ll get you into the unlock/reset menu.
  • Scroll down and select ‘Wipe Data/Factory Reset’.
  • You can use the volume buttons to scroll up/down and the power button to confirm selections.
  • Select ‘Yes – Delete All User Data’.
  • Select ‘Reboot System Now’. The phone then reboots to factory settings

Galaxy S3 Device Unreachable

Problem: Hi, I connected my phone via usb to my laptop. I was attempting to drag and drop a file from my phone to the computer but I keep getting error 0x80070141: The device is unreachable. Do you have a suggested fix for this? I’d appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you.

Solution: This error message pops up in a Windows PC and usually occurs when the PC has a problem dealing with a multimedia file. What you need to do first is disconnect your phone from your laptop and reboot it. Reboot your laptop as well. When both devices have fully rebooted connect your phone using a USB cord but this time try using a different USB port. Try to transfer your file and see if you still get the same error message. If you still get it then you might want to try using Kies to transfer files from your phone to your laptop. Download the latest Kies software from the Samsung website and install it to your laptop.

Galaxy S3 SD Card Not Recognized

Problem: Good Morning, I’m hoping that you can help me with a small problem that I’m having with my Samsung Galaxy SIII. When I woke up today it is telling me that I have to insert my SD Card. The SD Card has been in the phone since I bought it. I have never removed it and it has been working fine until now. I did do an update yesterday as it kept prompting me and seemed to be working fine but now my SD Card isn’t recognized!!! Why???? I’ve taken it out, put it back in, restarted the phone and nothing seems to help. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks and have a great day.

Solution: This could either be a problem with the SD card or the phone. To check on the SD card safely remove it from your device.

  • Start at the Homescreen
  • Go to ‘Applications’
  • Hit ‘Settings’
  • Choose ‘Storage’
  • Tap ‘Unmount SD card’
  • Select ‘OK’
  • You can now remove the back cover of your device and remove the memory card

Once removed try inserting this card to your laptop (with the help of an SD card adapter) or if you have another phone try to insert it there. If the SD card can be recognized by your laptop or alternate phone then we have proved that it works. If not then the SD card itself is faulty. If you have any data stored here it will be difficult to recover since the card can’t be recognized. Your best option is to buy a new SD card.

If the SD card can be recognized then there is an issue with your phone. Turn it off and take out the battery. Using a cotton dipped in alcohol try cleaning the SD card holder and contact point of your phone. Let the alcohol dry for a few seconds then return the battery and SD card. Turn on your phone. If the contact points are dirty then your phone will now recognize your SD card. If it still isn’t recognized then you might want to bring your device to an authorized service center for further checking.

Galaxy S3 Camera Error

Problem: Hi, When I tap to access the camera on my samsung it has just started to show Unknown error  by Errorcallback. Any ideas please? Thanks in advance

Solution: This error can be caused by various factors such as a faulty SD card, phone software, or even phone hardware.

To check if it is an SD card issue safely remove it from device.

  • Start at the Homescreen
  • Go to ‘Applications’
  • Hit ‘Settings’
  • Choose ‘Storage’
  • Tap ‘Unmount SD card’
  • Select ‘OK’
  • You can now remove the back cover of your device and remove the memory card

Once removed try using your camera. If the problem does not occur then replace your SD card with a new one. You could also try to reformat your old SD card and use it again.

To check if it is a software issue backup all of your data first then do a factory reset.

Check your camera and see if the issue still exists.

To check if it is a hardware issue try tapping the glass on the rear camera with your finger and activate the camera app.

If all else fails try to download a third party camera app and see if it works without the error message appearing.

Galaxy S3 Won’t Start After Update

Problem: Hi there, I just did a system update on my phone and now it won’t get past the beginning ‘Samsung’ logo screen. I have a Galaxy S3. It will go into Recovery and Download mode. I have tried: wiping the cache in recovery mode, using Odin, which gives me a ‘pass’ but the problem still continues, Kies won’t recognise my phone. Just says ‘connecting’ and then gives an error. I have tried troubleshooting the error connection with no luck. Odin connected fine. I haven’t tried a factory reset yet because I don’t want to lose everything on my phone if at all possible. Has anyone got any advice? Looks like other people have experienced the same thing after updates and some people have found that even factory resets haven’t fixed the issue. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Solution: The update process of your phone might have been corrupted which is why it is acting this way. Unfortunately the best option right now is to do a factory reset. If you have data stored in your SD card make a backup of it. The data stored in your phone will be difficult to recover.

Galaxy S3 Recover Accidentally Deleted Photos

Problem: accidentally deleted an album of photos that were on my phone..I really mean’t to delete 1 photo. I am on my PC and I have been searching on how I can recover them and have found solutions BUT I have one problem….THE SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 DOES NOT HAVE THE USB MASS STORAGE OPTION. I need that option in order to recover my  rphotos. I have downloaded and installed the USB MASS STORAGE APK FILE but when I click to choose UMS MODE, an error message comes up saying “Could not get root privileges, external SD card is being accessed or other error (IOException). My phone is not rooted. I don’t know what other way I can get mass storage on my phone. Can anyone help me out PLEASE.

Solution: Most of the apps that try to recover deleted data from a phone requires root access. Even if you do have root access the chances of recovering the data are still low since the space that the deleted data is using might have already been overwritten by new data. Your best option right now is to root your device so that you could start using the data recovery apps. Unfortunately, once you root your device the deleted album will most probably be permanently deleted. You could go ahead and root your phone and take your chances since either way the data will still be gone.

Galaxy S3 Can’t Make Calls

Problem: I just bought a new unlocked S3. I have a SIM card from my carrier and I have worked with them to set everything up properly. The problem is I can’t make or receive calls from my house, even if I have full signal. If I drive a mile down the road, I still can’t make calls. If I drive 20 miles down the road, I can. My carrier thinks that maybe there is an issue with the cell tower nearest my house, but my other phone works just fine when I put the same SIM card in it. Any ideas?

Solution: If the signal is full but you can’t make calls then it could be an issue with your phone or the carrier itself. You mentioned that if you drive 20 miles down the road you can place a call. This indicates that it might be a network issue. Try using a different SIM from another carrier on your device and see if you can make a call. If you can then the cell tower nearest your house might be blocking the call function of your SIM. Try asking for a replacement SIM.

Galaxy S3 Random Shut Down After Being Dropped

Problem: hello, i dropped my out-of-warranty s3 on a wood floor and there didn’t seem to by any major damage. however, now the phone randomly powers off on can’t be turned back on unless i pull the battery and put it back in. i can then power the phone back on. i have to do this several times a day. i tried a different battery – same thing. factory reset – same thing. so it’s pretty much narrowed down to a hardware issue at this point. is there anything i might be able to check by opening up the phone? Any last resort before tossing this thing and purchasing a new one? thanks…

Solution: When you dropped your phone there could have been components inside of it damaged by the shock. Unless you know the internals of this device there’s really nothing much you can achieve by opening it up. Your best option right now is to bring it to an authorized service center and have it fixed.

Galaxy S3 32GB SD Card Issues

Problem: I’m having issues using 32GB SD Cards with the S3 running Android 4.4.2. I’m basically using the larger SD card for music storage and was using Isyncher to get my music from my PC (ITunes) to the S3 via USB transfer. The Isyncher desktop app was freezing up all the time saying the S3 wasn’t responding. Thought it was my PC so I made sure to try new cables, different USB 3.0 ports, etc. Then I took it to the application level and the developer gave me suggestions with no luck. Basically communication to the device when reading/writing to the SD card locks up. I know KitKat forced new restrictions when using SD, but the developer said it was the application supported Kit Kat. This weekend – I went to take video and changed the storage location to SD and the Camera app locked up. Video was lost. Rebooted phone, tried again, and camera app locked up again. I should also note I’ve tried two different SD cards at this point. Formatted both on the phone. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Solution: Let’s try to isolate the problem first by safely removing the SD card.

  • Start at the Homescreen
  • Go to ‘Applications’
  • Hit ‘Settings’
  • Choose ‘Storage’
  • Tap ‘Unmount SD card’
  • Select ‘OK’
  • You can now remove the back cover of your device and remove the memory card

Once removed check and see if the problem still occurs. If it doesn’t then it’s probably caused by the SD card. Try using a different SD card with a lower capacity, like 16GB or 8GB. As much as possible try using a different brand from the one you are using. This is to avoid any potential problems with the manufacturing lot/batch that your SD card may have.

If the problem still exists even when removing the SD card then you may want to do a factory reset on your device as the software or an app is making your phone freeze whenever the SD card is accessed. Make sure to backup all your data first.

Galaxy S3 Water Damaged

Problem: Hi, I dropped my galaxy SIII accitentally in the toilet and immediately took out the battery and sim card dry it with a hair dryer and after put it in a bag with rice and left it for 48 hours. When I turn it on the first few days I couldent here sound when I watched videos or play games and the temperature of the battery whas very high( was reachning 80oC sometimes) and also it wont recognize the sim card. I turn it off and left there for a week and when I turn it back on surprisingly everything was working fine except that it still wont recognise the sim card. Is there anything that I can do?  Please help.

Solution: Whenever an electronic device gets in contact with water the circuitry inside will get shorted. Since you mentioned that your phone got dipped in the toiled chances are the water sipped in and damaged a component inside. The best thing to do right now is to bring your device to an authorized service center and have them check the extent of the water damage.
