Galaxy S4 SIM Card Issue

Problem: Hello, I have a Galaxy s4 from Verizon. They have assured me that the phone is unlocked. I recently went on a trip to South Africa and purchased a prepaid sim from MTN. When I put the sim in my phone the phone reads no sim. I used the sim in an international phone and it works fine. Verizon cannot tell me what is going on. To further confuse things I just bought my son a Galaxy s5 and the sim seems to work in the s5. Is there anything I can do to figure out why my s4 will not read this sim? Thank you

Solution: Have you noticed any particular error message appear on the display when you inserted the SIM? If your device is still locked you should be getting a message prompting you to enter the unlock code. Have you tried placing in another SIM in your S4 and see if it works?

Usually when a newly bought SIM is inserted it may take a while for it to be provisioned.  When you transferred the SIM to another device its provisioning might have been completed already which means that it could now be detected. Try placing it back in your S4 and see if it gets detected.

If your device still can’t read another SIM or the MTN SIM then there must be something wrong with the unlock process done on the device.  In this case you will have to refer this back to Verizon.

Galaxy S4 “not registered on network”

Problem: Hello. I stumbled upon your article while looking for help on my phone, I have a samsung galaxy s4 with a bell sim card, today the phone was working perfectly fine i was at work went to make a phone call about 20 minutes later and now its saying ” not registered on network” i called samsung and i did a factory reset i also removed the sim card and battery. nothing seems to work i provided them with my IMEI digit and they told me i needed to send it in to get fixed. Just curious as to what could be the issue with it? I got the phone about a month ago, and ordered a unlock code of GSM liberty and the phone has been working perfectly fine until today. Please help me out with this and give me some of your advice or thoughts on the issue. Thanks a lot

Solution: The “not registered on network” error message on your device can be caused by different factors such as the network, SIM card, or your phone itself. If it is a network related issue then the cause of this is having no signal in your area possibly due to an outage or problem with the towers. A faulty SIM card may also cause this error message to pop up.

Since you were able to talk to Samsung then they may have noticed something wrong with the IMEI of your device. We can then safely say that the problem is with the device itself. When connecting to a particular network the network will get the IMEI of your device. If this changes then you will be getting the “not registered on network” error message. The most likely thing that happened here is that the IMEI of your device changed causing this issue. A device does not normally change its IMEI and if this is what happened to your device then it’s really baffling.

The best thing to do right now is to have your device checked t an authorized service center.

Galaxy S4 Camera Fades To Dark In The Corners

Problem: Hi, Love your blog.  My Galaxy S4, which I’ve have for 3-4 months, used to take great photos. Just this week it fades to dark in all four corners, sort of like a antique-camera effect, even in full daylight. I haven’t changed any settings—it just started doing it. Did I accidentally trigger some camera setting?  Do I need to take it in for repair? I’d very much appreciate your help

Solution: This could be caused by dust or dirt getting inside the camera lens. Before bringing it to an authorized service center it’s best to check first if this is a software related issue. You will need to boot the device in safe mode then check the status of the camera. If the dark corners still appears then this means it’s not an app that is causing the problem. The next step is to do a factory reset on your device which brings it back to its original settings. Make sure to backup your data first before performing this procedure. If after performing the factory reset the dark corners still appear then we can safely say that this is already a hardware issue.

  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.

Galaxy S4 Overheating

Problem: Just some input. When I got my S4 it would overheat so bad that I couldn’t keep it in my pocket. Then I noticed a crack across where it was overheating. Since I couldn’t return it because of the crack, I did an insurance claim and the new one doesn’t get as hot…still warm…., just wondering if the heat could actually crack the screen? What do you think?

Solution: The display of the Galaxy S4 is designed to survive extreme temperatures and won’t easily crack under normal circumstances. It’s a different story though if the device is overheating and is placed inside a pants pocket. The heat combined with impact or pressure will really make the screen crack. There has already been a lot of reported incidents of the screen of the S4 cracking while inside the pants of the owner, especially if they are wearing tight pants.

To ensure that your device runs cool turn off any services that you are not using. These includes Wi-Fi, mobile data, GPS, and Bluetooth just to name a few. Try to see if there are any rouge apps running in the background which uses system resources even when on standby and uninstall them.

Galaxy S4 Showing Bugs, Playlist Disappears

Problem: Hi, After i have updated my galaxy s4 to the latest kitkat the phone becomes horrible. Until before the kitkat update i don’t have any isdues at all. Please help me.  I have the following issues 1. I have made lot of playlists in the music player and i have added lot of songs in each playlist. But after some time all the songs in the playlists are disappearing and shows 0 songs. I have removed the sd card. Restarted the phone. Cleated the cache. But again the same things are repeating every time. 2. Always i am getting lot of error messages even if my phone is idle. The error message starts like”the process.something… com has stopped” some sort of message like this. When i click cancel or report again it is coming. It becomes a big nuisance and im fed up with that. The only solution is to restart the phone. And not only that i cant press on the shutdown button because these bugs sre repeating continuosly. Then the only solution is press the power button until the phone stops. Im really fed up and i feel i want to throw away my phone. Please help me with a solution.

Solution: Whenever a device faces multiple problems right after an update the best way to deal with it is to perform a factory reset. These issues may be caused by apps that are having conflicts with the new operating system of the device. By doing a factory reset your device will still be running on KitKat but then it will revert back to its original settings and any app which you have installed will be gone. Before doing this procedure it is best to backup all of your data first.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

After the factory reset you will notice that the issues are now gone. Your next step is to get your favorite apps from the Google Play Store.

Galaxy S4 Google Play Store Error 24

Problem: I can not down load twitter app. I’ve tried several times for several days with no luck. I get an error 24, I’ve cleared cash and data,  I’ve Uninstaller play store up dates with no luck. I am using a galaxy s4. Hopfully there is an answer…. Thank you for your help.

Solution: The “Error 24” that you get from the Google Play Store is caused by app data that has been left by the previous installation. In this case, there is still data left on your device from your previous installation of Twitter. When you try to download the latest Twitter app the Google Play Store does not know what to make of the data that has been left on your device making it display the “Error 24” message.

The first thing to do is to clear cache. While this may not work all of the time it’s the best thing to do first. Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Apps -> Click on App -> Clear Cache. Check and see if the error message still pops up.

Next you must have a file manager program (may require root access). Using your file manager browse your internal storage and go to android/data/ and look for the Twitter folder. Delete that folder then go back to the Google Play Store and install it.

If you don’t have root access on your device then you might want to do a factory reset on your device. Just make sure to backup all of your data first.

Galaxy S4 Unlock Issues

Problem: I have Galaxy S4 Un-rooted with Android version 4.4.2 and have the SView cover which autolocks and unlocks. After the last update by Samsung I started facing a weird problem. If my screen is unlocked and I press the “lock” button it locks, but doesn’t unlock even after pressing the lock button. The capacitive touch buttons of back and menu keep lighting up but the phone doesn’t unlock. About 30 seconds later it automatically unlocks. Please help me regarding this.

Solution: Do you have an SD card in your device? If you have try removing it then check and see if there is still a lag when unlocking your device. The reason for this is that some SD cards may unmount when the device sleeps and remount when it is awakened. This might be one cause of your lag issue.  If you are not experiencing any lag when the SD card is removed then you might want to consider backing up the data stored in it and formatting it or replacing it.

Aside from a faulty SD card there may be certain apps in your device that is causing this lag issue. To check and see if any third party app is causing this you should boot your device in Safe Mode.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • When the Samsung logo appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

In Safe Mode check and see if any lag still exists. If there is no more lag then you might want to start finding and uninstalling the app that is causing this.

Galaxy S4 Display Color Issues

Problem: hi..i got new s4 and display has pink/purple hue on top 15% of screen and yellowish tint at bottom looks like top part is darker than the lower part of display , more noticeable at lower brightness….i have come across many of them having this issue at least 90% of s4 owners…..is it a defective display.. did Samsung react for the issue…please anyone help me out its annoying to read ebooks on s4

Solution: There are a lot of S4 owners complaining about this purple smearing issue and seems to be caused by how the AMOLED display operates. Try and check if there are any software updates for your device and get them. See if you are still experiencing the problem. Other than that Samsung suggested to run the device in Safe Mode to check if an app is causing it. A lot of owners of this device posting on popular forums suggest that this is a hardware issue though.

Galaxy S4 No Service

Problem: I got my samsung galaxy s4 about four days ago. Save for a few app crashes (contacts and another that I cannot remember), it’s been working pretty great. Today though, I found the ‘no service’ symbol in the upper left corner of my screen. When I flipped airplane mode on and off, it turned on, but would not turn off. I know for a fact the service was fine where I was. I fixed it by restarting the phone and it worked for a few more hours just fine. The next problem with service I had was while I was sending a text message. As far as I can remember, the message said it had sent fine. I had three or four bars, and everything seemed normal. I had to restart a few hours later because of the contacts app crashing, and when it turned back on, it said the message failed to send, along with other notifications, as if they had been blocked from coming through for a while.

Solution: What you need to do first is to verify with your carrier if there are any signal issues in your area. This way we can eliminate any network related problems. Next we need to isolate your SIM card. Try using another SIM card on your device and see if the problem still exists. If it doesn’t then there’s something wrong with your original SIM in which case you might want to have it replaced.

If the network and your SIM is good then we can now go ahead and check your device. First check on its network settings. Go to Settings > Connections > More Networks > Mobile network–Network mode > Network Operators > select automatically preferred network. Now check if the problem still occurs.

If it still occurs then boot your device in Safe Mode and test your device. What we are doing is to eliminate any third party app that may cause this problem.

If all else fails then do a factory reset on your device but make sure to backup all your data first.

Solution: Open your Messaging app then go to its settings. Under Storage uncheck Delete old messages.
