Sony launches SmartBand wearable in the U.S. for $100

Sony SmartBand

Sony has just launched its SmartBand fitness wearable in the U.S. for just $100. This means that Android users will finally have a viable alternative to the likes of Fitbit and a range of other fitness related wearables available in the market. It is to be seen though if Sony will be able to leverage the demand for fitness wearables with its new offering as the likes of Fitbit Flex and Jawbone Up are well settled in the market.

Interested buyers can snatch up this cool accessory directly from Sony’s website or a nearby retail outlet for the aforementioned price. Buyers will have to download dedicated apps meant for the smartwatch for seamless syncing of data, which is available freely in the Google Play Store.

The fitness wearable segment is pretty diverse at the moment and they don’t exactly come under the smartwatch segment as these devices usually don’t have a display and merely sync with the cellphones using a dedicated app. But the emergence of newer smartwatches, such as the two new Android Wear devices that are expected to break cover, these fitness wearables might get lost in the crowd.
