The user customizable hardware button, Pressy, which was initially revealed as a Kickstarter project last year, will be delivered to early backers in the coming weeks. Units have reportedly begun shipping out of China and will take 1-3 weeks to reach backers, depending on their location.
For those unaware, Pressy is a small button which slots into the 3.5mm headphone jack of an Android smartphone and allows users to customize the button according to their liking. There’s a dedicated app to carry out these functions and change them accordingly. It’s a pretty novel idea and something which has long been awaited. Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi launched an exact replica of Pressy called MiKey for a fraction of the price, drawing significant flak from fans.
The makers of Pressy were initially looking for a funding goal of $40,000 but that has now reached $700,000 thanks to the enormous support shown by the backers. The long wait since August is finally over and backers should have more details landing in their inbox anytime now. New customers can place a pre order for Pressy with an asking price of $27, but there’s no clarification on when it will be shipped out to the customers.
