Nexus devices will not be ditched says Google official

Nexus 5

Since Google’s plans to launch the Android Silver program was leaked a few months ago, there has been talk about the Nexus program being ditched altogether. But the head of Android Engineering, David Burke has said that there’s no such plans on the company’s mind, providing a huge sigh of relief for fans.

Burke said – “People have been commenting about Nexus because there is something else and they think that means the end of Nexus. That is the totally wrong conclusion to make.”

He didn’t comment on Android Silver as the company is still keeping it a secret, but subtly hinted that the two could co-exist catering to different segments of the market. It’s pleasing to know that Google doesn’t plan on ditching Nexus phones as they have shaped the future of Android quite well. Even though it’s the OEM branded smartphones that rake in the numbers, the contribution of Nexus devices in the market has been immense.
