It was recently revealed that HTC had ditched its plans to launch the premium One M8 Prime smartphone. A new tipster cited by Phone Arena reaffirms that, but also claims that another flagship level HTC smartphone is inbound later in the year sporting a 5.2 inch display. It is believed that this smartphone will replace the One Max after the phablet’s dismal showing last year.
The tipster also believes that there won’t be a Nexus 8 tablet announced at this year’s I/O event with HTC and Google expected to hold a separate launch event in the coming months. HTC’s name has been tossed up as one of the likely contenders to make the next Nexus tablet, so the rumor does hold some weight.
However, we’re taking it with a pinch of salt for the time being and suggest you do the same. Google has chosen ASUS for two models of the Nexus 7 so far, and if the history is anything to go by, we could see a new manufacturer this year. And while LG is also said to be in the running, HTC would possibly be a better suited candidate considering its widely acclaimed design philosophy. But that’s just down to personal preference.
