HTC was rather quick to announce its plans to update its flagship phones to Android L, and Motorola has now come up with details on its plans to update a couple of its devices, though in a less official manner. Motorola Germany confirmed on its Facebook page that the Moto X and Moto G would be updated to Android 5.0 this fall, around the time when Google releases the final version of the OS.
It’s odd that Motorola is calling Android L 5.0, though we’re guessing this is just a wild guess it is making due to lack of any info from Google about what version number the next major release of Android will sport. Given the huge amount of changes, 5.0 does seem likely, but the main takeaway here is that Motorola will be updating two of its top-selling devices to Android L, something it should be able to do quite fast given the use of near-stock Android on its smartphones.
Android L was announced at Google I/O yesterday and is the biggest update to the OS since its launch. It includes a revamped interface, faster performance due to a switch to the new ART runtime, improved battery life, features like Do Not Disturb, notifications on the lockscreen, and more, and will be released sometime in the fall.
