Xiaomi is taking the world by storm with its affordable Android smartphones with great specs now the company aims to do the same in the consumer electronic market with its introduction of its latest Android TV called the Mi TV 2. This isn’t the first smart TV that the company has released at it has previously released the first Mi TV model last September. This new model is its first 49-inch TV that comes with a 4K display with 3D functionality and runs on Android 4.3 with the MIUI TV interface on top.

This smart TV is definitely going to shake up the market as it comes with a price tag of only $640. For this price consumers can already get a TV that is able to display 4K content. This makes watching movies in 4K UHD formats a great experience. Since this TV is powered by Android, consumers will be able to install apps and games on it or even stream online videos. It is able to connect to a wireless home network through its 802.11ac 2×2 Wi-FI support.
The other features of the Mi TV 2 include Bluetooth 4.0, 3 HDMI ports, 1 VGA port, SPDIF and AV ports, line output, and an analog TV input. Its Bluetooth feature is being used by its remote control which doesn’t use IR. This allows the TV to be controlled even without line of sight. The days of losing the remote control is finally over as Xiaomi has included a feature where consumers can simply press a button on the smart TV to make the remote control beep. There’s even a remote app available that can be used by an Android smartphone is consumers prefer controlling the TV with their own mobile device.
Another great use of its Bluetooth feature is by connecting a Bluetooth game controller to the TV which will provide a great gaming experience.
In terms of physical design this new TV is very slim having a thickness of only 15.5cm and weighs in at only 12.9kg.
Company CEO Lei Jun says that they have learned a lot from their experience with previous Mi TV model. The company’s first model had issues regarding production however this won’t happen with this new model since the company has partnered with Wistron and Pegatron.
The Xiaomi Mi TV 2 is expected to hit the Chinese market starting this May 27. Unfortunately as of this time there are no plans to sell it internationally.
