The Sony Xperia Z2 was announced to be exclusive to carrier Bell in Canada, something that might limit the device’s reach. However, this doesn’t mean that are on other carriers cannot buy Sony’s latest flagship, as the Japanese manufacturer has started taking pre-orders for the unlocked variant of the Z2 via its official website.
The phone is priced at $699.99 and can be pre-ordered at various retail stores, according to its landing page on the Sony Canada website, though no precise availability date is mentioned. Bell is also taking pre-orders and is offering the device at $179.95 on contract and $699.95 without contract, though again, there’s no telling when these pre-orders will actually start shipping out to consumers.
The Xperia Z2 is perhaps the most balanced flagship handset this year, featuring great hardware in all departments, especially the display, camera and battery. It has a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 20.7-megapixel camera, a 3,200 mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat. It’s also water and dust-resistant with IP58 certification, which combines with the hardware to make for one of the compelling smartphones Sony has ever put out in market.
