We’ve been hearing about the Huawei Ascend P7 flagship Android smartphone for quite some time now and have gotten several leaks and speculations surrounding it. All of the rumors can finally be placed to rest as Huawei has officially unveiled the device in a press event held in Paris. This device is the successor to the popular Ascend P6 which the company hopes it will surpass.
The Huawei Ascend P7 is a 5-inch smartphone that has a full HD 1080p display. It shares the same slim design as its predecessor having a 6.5mm thick body. The Ascend P6 previously held the record of the world’s thinnest smartphone (6.2mm), a feat which isn’t duplicated by its successor. It is however still one of the thinnest LTE devices to become available in the market.
In terms of build quality Huawei has not made any compromises as the device uses Corning Gorilla glass 3 for its front and rear covers. This allows the device to withstand the rigors of everyday use while providing a sleek and sophisticated appearance.
According to Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, “Huawei’s relentless commitment to developing premium quality smartphones over the past three years has paid off. We are now ranked number three globally in terms of smartphone shipments, and our brand recognition is growing steadily in key regions such as China and Western Europe. Today, the launch of Huawei Ascend P7 once again challenges existing industry standards by redefining smartphone design, camera experience, and connectivity, to provide people with an unprecedented mobile experience.”
The Huawei Ascend P7 uses the company’s own HiSilicon Kirin 910T chipset which comes with a quad core 1.8 GHz processor and Mali 450 graphics chip. While other high end smartphones comes with 3GB of RAM this model only has 2GB of RAM which is still quite large. There’s also 15GB of internal storage and the ability to expand this further using a microSD.
What’s probably one of the best features of this device is its camera. It uses Sony’s 4th generation BSI sensor, Image Signal Processer (ISP), IMAGESmart 2.0 software and f/2.0 aperture on its 13MP 5P non-spherical lens rear-facing camera which is able to take excellent quality photos in low lighting conditions. Then there’s also the Ultra Snapshot which allows a user to take a photo 1.2 seconds after double clicking the down volume button even while on lock mode. This allows for quick photos to be taken without the need for navigating the menu which takes some time.
Huawei understands that consumers today are inclined to take selfie shots, which is why it uses an 8MP 5P non-spherical lens front facing camera. It even has a panorama mode which allows users to take a group selfie shot.
The device also comes with the company’s proprietary Image Signal Processor (ISP) which allows users more freedom in changing the settings of the camera which can be compared to that of a professional DSLR.
As far as the connection to the Internet is concerned this device is able to provide blazingly fast connection speeds thanks to its 4G LTE feature. The company even included several enhancements to improve network connections such as a dual antenna design and the use of network switching technology which provides a stable connection even when the signal is weak.
The Ascend P7 uses a 2500 mAh lithium polymer battery which may not be that large however the company has combined this with its super power-saving mode technology. This technology switches of unnecessary apps running in the background and when the device only has 10 percent power left only the basic functions will remain activated.
This device will be selling for €449 or roughly $625 and will be sold in several European and Asian markets starting this May.
