The PadFone X, the latest in ASUS’ lineup of smartphones that can turn into tablets in a blink of an eye, was officially announced for AT&T in January this year, but the carrier has continuously delayed letting us know when it actually plans to start selling the device. Well, that’s changing today — AT&T has announced that the PadFone X will be available for purchase from June 6th, at a price of $199.99 on a two-year contract.
That price might be a bit hard to swallow for some people at a time when more powerful smartphones like the HTC One M8 or the Samsung Galaxy S5 are available, but for a phone that docks into an additional screen to become a tablet, it’s not too bad. Even the specs are pretty much on the high-end side, if not the latest – there’s a 5-inch 1080p display on the phone and 1920×1200 screen on the tablet dock, a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear shooter, expandable 16GB storage, 2,300 mAh and 4,990 mAh batteries for the phone and tablet, and Android 4.4 KitKat.
