Google TV is seeing a slow but pacey demise as the Mountain View giant looks to shift it to a new brand called Android TV. We saw a couple of screenshots of this device in early April, so its existence is well known. And now, a report claims that the device could be unveiled and shown off at next month’s Google I/O developer conference in San Francisco.
The I/O event last year was pretty low key as there was no major device announcement. But that could change this year with the announcement of Android TV, which will be pretty big considering the competition it will face from the likes of Apple, Roku and the recently launched Amazon Fire TV, which is also based on Android but without Google services like Play Store, Play Music etc.
Apart from bringing an array of content streaming services to the fore, Android TV will also be centered towards gaming by leveraging the vast number of titles from the Play Store. Other than a couple of screenshots, we haven’t received much details on Android TV, but that could change as we inch closer to the launch.
