Last March we reported about the Samsung Galaxy Beam 2 (G3858) being spotted at TENAA (China’s FCC). Now the device has become official as it is already listed in Samsung’s China website. This device is the successor to the Galaxy Beam which was released in 2012. What makes this device unique is that it has its own built-in pico projector allowing users to view content on a much larger screen.
The Samsung Galaxy Beam 2 is basically a smartphone and a projector rolled into one compact device. As far as its smartphone feature is concerned it can best be described as a mid-range device having using a quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. We can’t describe its projector feature as of yet since Samsung has not the brightness details yet. Usually, projectors of this size do not work well in well-lit environments and need a dark room to be able to function properly.
For comparison purposes the original Samsung Galaxy Beam had a rating of 15 lumens and is able to project a 50 inch image at 2 meters away. Since the Beam 2 is an upgrade then its projector must have more lumens.

The Samsung Galaxy Beam 2 has several improvements over its predecessor. It now runs on an updated version of Android, uses a more powerful processor, and its projector now has a WVGA resolution.
There must be a market for this device since Samsung has just released an updated model. Consumers who need a pico projector to share their photos or videos with friends will definitely be interested in this model. This device however falls in a niche market targeting a very specific market group.
There is still no official announcement yet if this model will be headed outside of China soon. Judging from the previous model the Galaxy Beam 2 may become available in select international markets.
