The upcoming OnePlus One will reportedly sell through an invite system, according to a new statement made by the company on its forums. This step has been taken to avoid any hassles or demand issues usually associated with a heavily hyped launch. The company claims that the invites will be given out via “friends, contests and on [the OnePlus] forums“, but plans to make the process much easier as the time progresses.
It’s not surprising that the OnePlus One is generating so much interest among customers. Considering that the smartphone easily has the best hardware for a sub $400 device, it’s clear that most Android fans are interested in owning a unit.
But considering the nature of the company, it’s simply not possible to make the device available in such great volume. Keeping this in mind, this appears to be a decent way to keep the manufacturing streamlined, at least during the initial few months of launch.
The manufacturer gave out the pricing and availability info of the smartphone yesterday which included the U.S. as well as parts of Europe. It will be interesting to see if the handset will be able to live up to all the hype and interest built up over the past couple of months.
