Reports in the past have pegged Taiwanese manufacturer HTC to be in the running to make the upcoming Nexus 8 tablet. And now, some industry sources cited by Digitimes have reaffirmed these claims. According to these sources, Google wanted HTC to make the second gen Nexus 7, but the company refused as it was busy focusing on getting its mobile business streamlined.
But with HTC’s mobile business not going anywhere as of now, it might be the ideal time to partner with Google for a potentially lucrative Nexus tablet. It is said that Google wants a brand new design for the Nexus 8, so don’t be surprised to see a unibody type build as we see on current-gen HTC smartphones.
This is also a decent opportunity for HTC to get back in the tablet game. Its tablets like the Flyer and the Jetstream have hardly made an impact on the market, so this could be the right opportunity to get back on track. Other rumors in the past have indicated that Google might partner with LG for this upcoming tablet, so that’s likely to materialize as well.
