HTC’s losses in Q1 2014 plunges further

HTC has been in the news from the past couple of weeks since the HTC One M8 was announced. However, the company’s Q1 2014 financial earnings don’t look all that promising. The Taiwanese manufacturer reported losses of NT$1.88 billion this past quarter which is about $62 million.

One silver lining for the company though is that the revenue from March 2014 is up by 2.16% compared to the same period last year. This has a lot to do with the launch of the new flagship, which has built up some interest among fans.

The launch day arrival in the U.S. and some other regions has helped the company’s cause greatly as well. However, unless HTC shifts focus onto midrange devices, we don’t see its fortunes changing. The company has launched the Desire 816 and the 610 recently which has seen quite a lot of demand in Asian markets, so it’s certainly off to a good start.

The company executives have hinted that there could be more midrange offerings this year, so the company looks to be headed in the right direction.
