Sony has made it public that its flagship devices will be upgraded every six months. We saw this with the Xperia Z1 which launched in September and was shortly replaced by the Xperia Z2 which broke cover in February. It seems like the Japanese manufacturer will follow the same strategy for its mini handsets too. A FCC listing has spotted the new Sony SO-04F, which could well be the new Xperia Z2 Compact, succeeding the Xperia Z1 Compact from earlier this year.
Some images of the back plate of the smartphone have also surfaced, revealing a very familiar design and the same LED flash placement as the Z1 Compact. The launch of a newer mini Xperia model would immediately make the Xperia Z1 Compact obsolete, which is rather unfortunate as the handset is yet to arrive in global markets.
However, given that this is just an FCC listing, we’re guessing there’s still some time left before Xperia Z2 Compact smartphone goes official. So maybe Sony can ensure the Xperia Z1 Compact reaches as many markets as possible by then.
