Acer announced two new 7-inch tablet models at the “A Touch More Connected” launch event in New York which will hit the market this coming June. The Iconia Tab 7 is device that combines the features of a tablet and a phone while the Iconia One 7 is a basic tablet that’s suited for multimedia tasks.
We’ve already featured the Acer Iconia Tab 7 now it’s time to get to know the Acer Iconia One 7. As its name implies, the Iconia One 7 is a 7-inch tablet that runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean (upgradeable to KitKat) and uses an Intel Atom Z2560 Clover Trail+ processor. According to the company this device is best used for mobile entertainment as it is slim and comes in a variety of colors.
According to Maverick Shih, president of Acer’s BYOC and Tablet Business Group, “Since the beginning, Acer’s mission has been to break down the barriers between people and technology and make the latest technologies accessible to all people. The new Iconia One 7 is a great example of how we continue this heritage by offering mobile devices with great functionality, unique designs and excellent value.”
- Display: 7-inch LED-backlit IPS, 1280×800 HD resolution
- OS: Android 4.2 Jelly Bean upgradeable to Android 4.4 (KitKat)
- Processor: Intel Atom Z2560 Clover Trail+ dual-core 1.6GHz
- GPU: PowerVR SGX544MP2
What’s probably the highlight of this device is that it makes use of an Intel processor instead of an ARM-based processor. The Intel Atom Z2560 Clover Trail+ is a dual-core processor designed to be used on mobile devices. The advantage of using this processor is that aside from being cheap it comes with a hyperthreading feature which allows for the maximum usage of each core.
Hermann Eul, vice president and general manager of Intel’s Mobile and Communications Group, said “Congratulations to Acer on delivering the Intel Atom-powered Acer Iconia One 7 to market. It offers superb gaming and entertainment performance, long battery life and a sleek form factor. We look forward to continuing our close work with Acer to bring additional innovative mobile devices to market that meet the ever-increasing demands of today’s consumers.”
The Acer Iconia One 7 is able to handle games and HD videos smoothly thanks to its use of the powerful PowerVR SGX544MP2 graphics chip. Its display is best for reading ebooks, surfing the web, or simply watching videos. It is tested to have a 7 hour battery life on a single charge when watching 720p movies making it ideal for use when travelling.
This device will become available in the market this coming June and is expected to have a price of $130.
