Xiaomi Miui Gets Tablet Support, Nexus 7 (Wi-Fi Version) Becomes First Adopter

Chinese device manufacturer Xiaomi is popular not just because of its hardware but also because of its software. The company is known for its MIUI firmware based on the Android operating system that’s modified to become simple to use and adds more features.

While Xiaomi only has smartphone products as of now that hasn’t stopped them from developing a MIUI Android ROM that is tablet-friendly. The company recently released MIUI that’s compatible with the Wi-Fi version of the Nexus 7. The ROM brings all of the things that people loved about it on a tablet.

First you will need to download the MIUI ROM for tablets as well as the other necessary tools

Things to consider

  • Perform this on a computer running Windows Operating system
  • This only applies to the Nexus 7 II (Wi-Fi) International Version
  • You might lose your data when flashing this ROM, or worse brick your device

Unlocking the Bootloader

  • Backup all data on your SD card as this procedure will delete all data on it.
  • Turn off your device. Hold Volume + key and the Power button at the same time to enter Fastboot mode
  • If your device shows “LOCK STATE – UNLOCKED”, your device is already unlocked, and you could skip the steps of this procedure. If it shows “LOCK STATE – LOCKED”, please go on with the unlock steps.
  • Double click unlock.bat in the ROM-flashing tools on your computer
  • After your device shows unlock Bootloader page, use the Volume keys to choose Yes, and use the Power button to confirm.

Going back to stock ROM

  • These steps can be ignored if your device is already running  on stock Android 4.4
  • Turn off your device. Hold Volume + key and the Power button at the same time to enter Fastboot mode
  • If your device shows “LOCK STATE – UNLOCKED”, your device is already unlocked, and you could skip the steps of this procedure. If it shows “LOCK STATE – LOCKED”, please go on with the unlock steps.
  • Double click flash-all.bat in the ROM-flashing tools on your computer. Your device will turn on automatically after flashing is completed. This process will last approximately 10 minutes.

Flashing MIUI ROM

  • Open the ROM flashing tools file on the computer and simply follow the guide
  • When flashing is completed the virtual keys are unusable, long press the Power button for 15 seconds to reboot your device.
