Sony Xperia Z Ultra now getting the Android 4.4 update

Xperia Z Ultra

Sony has started rolling out the Android 4.4 update for the Xperia Z Ultra smartphone starting from select regions in Asia. The smartphone with the model number C6833 in Hong Kong is reportedly getting the update first. As of now, this is only available as an OTA, so owners cannot flash the update manually. Users can also try checking the settings to see if an update is available there. Since this is a phased roll out, all Xperia Z Ultra users will not see the update immediately. In the meanwhile, expect the developers over at XDA to come up with a manual update package soon with the OTA now rolling out.

Users of the HTC Butterfly S have also started receiving the update to Android 4.4.2 since Friday. It is a hefty 740MB so make sure you’re on an unlimited connection before downloading the update. Both updates will bring several changes to core functionality, mostly pertaining to stock Android. This is accompanied by standard changes and tweaks to the UIs of the two devices, so a lot will be different after the update.

  1. You should if there is a build from CM for your phone. They really do a good job. But the nightlies build will have a few very minor bugs. But you get awesome power and battery backup.

  2. Finally. I was thinking of trying to root my phone and install a custom KitKat based ROM. Thank you Sony for the update.

  3. Finally. People have been complaining a lot about the delay in the KitKat release. I hope this will please them.
