We recently saw LG announce the Smart Lamp which allows users to control its functioning remotely using a mobile device. Samsung has just announced its own Smart Bulb, but with a slightly toned down functionality. The company claims that this bulb has a life span of 10 years which is decent for a home appliance. However, unlike the LG Smart Lamp, this can only function via Bluetooth, so you can control it based on proximity with the unit.
Samsung will probably launch mobile applications to control the bulb while within range. Alternatively, users can adopt something like Zigbee to make the bulbs controllable from practically anywhere. It is said that users can control up to 64 smart bulbs using their smartphone or tablet. The Korean manufacturer is yet to detail pricing and availability information, but we can see it launching in several global markets in the coming months.
This is a LED bulb, which is why Samsung can assure a battery life of 15,000 hours or 10 years, depending on usage. With home appliances getting increasingly smarter each day, this particular product could see widespread adoption if marketed correctly.
