Samsung Galaxy S3 Slim Gets Launched

It looks like Samsung is re-releasing an old model and this time around giving it a fresh modern look. The Samsung Galaxy S3 Slim is a refreshed version of the company’s previous flagship model, the Galaxy S3, which debuted in the market last May 2012. Aside from being much slimmer, this new device has specs that are lower than the original.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Slim runs on Android 4.2 straight out of the box and has a 4.5-inch qHD (960 x 540) display. It measures 133 x 66 x 9.7 mm as opposed to the 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm dimensions of the original S3.

Technical Specifications

Here are the specs of the 2012 Galaxy S3

Taking a look at both devices we could see that the two year old Galaxy S3 has superior specs compared to the Galaxy S3 Slim. The only advantage of the Galaxy S3 Slim is that it is more compact which should be an attractive feature for consumers looking for a device that can easily slide into a pocket.

Pricing has not been revealed yet however judging from its specs it’s not going to cost that much. What Samsung is doing here is taking advantage of the name recall of the Galaxy S3 and placing it in its new model. Unfortunately though this new slim version only carries the same name as the original device but not its features.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Slim has just been listed at the company’s Brazilian site however no release date is provided.

  1. Obviously. Open Source platforms have the benefit of innovation coming in from independent developers.

  2. I don’t think Tizen will reach the level of Android. Android being open source, will always be bigger.

  3. Are they reviving their most successful flagship, or simply banking on the popularity of the S3?
Either way, this only goes to show that Samsung is running out of ideas how to make new innovative products at this time.

  4. You can’t say that. How many of the users really think of the specs? I am sure most of the users go with the brand. And this is Galaxy S3. That is sufficient

  5. So we have S3, S3 Mini, S3 Slim, and probably a few more variants already. And what next? S3 Mini Slim? S3 Slim Mini?

  6. It will take years for them to even reach what Android is today. There is a bigger and better team behind Android than what Samsung and Intel has behind the Tizen platform.

  7. Because they are no longer interested in Android. Tizen is where they are investing all the innovation.

  8. How this any different from the S3? Apart from the screen size and lesser MP camera, no different from the S3. Old wine in new bottle.

  9. Every week at least one new phone. Why? Just why? What do you want to prove, Samsung? That you are very innovative? This is not innovation. Not even a bit

  10. Samsung today has got widest range of phones, a low cost Galaxy Start Pro to high end Galaxy S4 and S5, Samsung has covered the entire market segment.

  11. Sigh! Another lack luster and drab product from Samsung. Just messed around with the specs and released the S3 again. Why Samsung, why?
