During the MWC 2014 event held last February in Barcelona, Spain LG announced its successor to the L Series II range of smartphones called the L Series III. The L Series III lineup is composed of the L40, L70 and L90 all of which run on Android 4.4 KitKat and have similar specs and design with the difference in screen sizes.
The company did not announce back then when these budget smartphones will be released or how much they are going to cost however the L70 has now been spotted in several online stores. A recent post at Taiwanese website ePrice as well as in the Amazon German site shows the LG L70 available for pre-order with an expected shipping date of April 1. According to ePrice the device will cost around $163 in Taiwan while Amazon Germany is offering the device at a much higher price of €179 or roughly $246. Clove UK is also taking in pre-orders for this device right now which is priced at £165 or $272.
LG has still to make an official announcement as to when the L70 or the entire L Series III devices will be released in the market however there’s a big chance that it will be made this April 1.

The LG L70 is a 3G device that’s expected to make a name for itself in the budget smartphone category. While this device won’t be making waves in the US market where consumers are looking for LTE devices this model will certainly become a viable option in other markets where 3G is still the mode of connection.
As an L Series III device it is expected to become more advanced than its predecessor however a quick look at its specs shows that this isn’t the case. Let’s compare this for instance with the LG Optimus L7 Series II. The L7 II has a 4.3 inch display with a resolution of 400×800 pixels at 217ppi while the L70 has the same resolution at a lower 199ppi. The rear camera of the L7 II is 8MP while that of the L70 is only 5MP in selected markets. Battery life is also somewhat disappointing for the L70 which stands at only 2100mAh while the L7 II uses a 2460mAh battery.
The strength of the L70 lies in its software which is already Android KitKat as well as its decent 1GB RAM which should make the device run smoothly.
