Chinese company Xiaomi announced a new Android smartphone that will be a follow up to its popular Hongmi model. The Xiaomi Hongmi 1S is the company’s latest entry-level offer that’s going to be available for pre-order at ¥799 ($130) this coming February 20 in China. Its overall physical design is still the same as the original Hongmi but then the internals have been replaced with more powerful components.
The Xiaomi Hongmi 1S now uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with 1.6GHz quad-core CPU and Adreno 305 GPU instead of the MediaTek MT6589T SoC of the previous model. This gives it a slight advantage in overall performance.
The device also comes with 1GB of RAM and an internal storage of 8GB. If the space is not enough then it can further be expanded using the microSD slot.
The screen used is a 4.7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels at 312ppi. It is able to display 6 million colors and has wide viewing angles as well as excellent color reproduction.
It support both CDMA and GSM networks ((CDMA 2000/1X/EVDO Rev.A 3G; 800/1900MHz, GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz) and has a dual sim dual standby capability.
There’s an 8MP rear camera with f/2.2 and LED flash that’s capable of recording 1080- quality videos. The front camera is rated at 1.6MP and can be used in making video calls or taking selfies.
Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with the MIUI V5 interface is being used straight out of the box.
