When Vivo announced a new device late last year that would use a 2K display (2560 x 1440 pixels) a lot of people were excited about it. The Vivo Xplay 3S is being dubbed as the “world’s first QHD smartphone” and initially had a launch date of December 12 last year. This did not materialize and was moved to January 15, then to February 12.
Today the device is still not available in stores and it looks like the company announced that it is now targeting an end of the month release date however no specific date was mentioned. While no reason was given for this delay the most probable cause is the supply of 2K displays. It’s not common to have a mobile device with a 2K display today and Vivo will be the first to launch such a device. Being the first to use any new technology will almost always have unforeseen problems.
With the number of release delays occurring there’s a chance that the upcoming Oppo Find 7 (another device with a 2K display) might be released first.

The Vivo Xplay 3S is one of the next generation smartphones that uses a 2K display, comes with LTE connectivity, and has a powerful processor. Despite having a 6-inch display it is quite compact and can even be easily used with only one hand.
What’s probably the selling point of this model is its display. It has a very high resolution that users will be able to distinguish the pixels unless they use a macro lens. Text and photos appear stunning on this device. Video on the other hand appears just like that of any 1080p device which is due to the video resolution technology that we currently have and not because of the hardware.
The Vivo Xplay 3S will cost $577 (3,498 CNY) when released in the market.
