A new rumor claims that Google will be looking to launch the ASUS Nexus 8 tablet along with the next major iteration of Android dubbed as Android 4.5 in July this year. While the company is scheduled to hold the annual I/O developer event in late June, it is said that no major announcements will be made during the event. Instead, Google will wait for a month to announce Android 4.5 and the Nexus 8 tablet in a separate event. The I/O event will apparently focus on new services that the company plans to bring this year.
What’s interesting from this report is the mention of an 8 inch Nexus tablet. Could Google finally be making the switch to 8 inch tablets by ditching 7 inch tablets altogether? Sounds very likely given the rise in demand for 8 inch tablets. But it is unlikely that Google would launch two budget tablets side by side, so it is fair to assume that the Nexus 8 line will replace the two year old Nexus 7. As for Android 4.5, there’s not a lot of information to go with at this point, so take it with a grain of salt. And given that Android 4.4 was launched in November 2013, it’s unlikely that Google will launch another update to Android before the 12 month update cycle. So we are a bit skeptical on that one.
