A new message was sent to us via The Droid Guy Mailbag which reads, “After updating to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, opening my Nexus 5 app drawer causes a crash. The weird thing is that it only happens whenever I am opening the Nexus 5 app drawer in portrait mode. The problem does not occur when I am launching the Nexus 5 app drawer in landscape mode. Is there a way to fix this?”
How to Fix the Nexus 5 App Drawer Crash Issue
It is weird indeed that the Nexus 5 app drawer only crashes when it is opened in portrait mode. While looking for a possible solution to this, I came across a similar problem in one forum online. The solution to this seems to be very simple.
1. Clear the Cache and Data of the App
First, clear the cache of your launcher to delete temporary files that may be causing glitches in the new update. If that does not work, go ahead and clear its data too. Be reminded though that the latter will revert the settings of your app to their original state.
2. Remove Rouge Third-Party Apps
Although less likely, there is also a possibility that another app that you have recently downloaded is affecting the way that your app drawer operates. So, uninstall it for the meantime and observe if the issue still occurs.
You can test too if a third-party is interfering with the normal operations of your phone by booting it under Safe Mode. If the problem does not happen under this mode, then you can be sure that there is a third-party app causing the trouble. Just locate and uninstall it from your phone.
3. Perform a Hard Reset or Factory Reset
If all else fails, backup your device and perform a Factory Reset to completely clean up its system files and remove the bugs that it is encountering.
