The mobile Word Congress in Barcelona just kicked off and already, the Android smartphone market seems poised for some great unveils and releases and Lenovo has become among the first. Lenovo made a big announcement unveiling three new budget android smartphone targeted at different consumers. The phones, S660, S850 and the S860 feature different designs and hardware specifications:
At the bottom of the S line of just launched smartphone, the Lenovo S660 seems targeted at first Android or smartphone users and although it has a price tag of $229, most of its hardware specifications are impressive. It has a 4.7 inch 540 x 960 pixels display translating to a 234 ppi pixel density, a Quad core 1.3 GHz MediaTek processor and 1 GB RAM. It also has an 8 GB onboard memory but with a memory card slot for memory expansion by up to 32 GB and has an 8 megapixels primary and 0.3 megapixels secondary cameras. The Lenovo S660 also has a 3,000 mAh battery that promises up to 24 hours of use and is made of brushed up metal that gives it a sleek, clean and stronger look and feel. If you are not too concerned about the specs of a phone, this may be ideal for you.
Ladies, the 5 inch Lenovo S850 was designed specifically for the fashion conscious who would rather not spend too much money on high end devices they probably wouldn’t need. This is an immaculately designed smartphone with a shiny glass exterior – and it comes in pink and white. Under the hood, the S850 boasts of a quad-core 1.3 GHz MediaTek processor and 1 GB RAM just like the S660 but it has more internal storage of 16 GB and it supports dual-SIM. The battery is 2,000 mAh, which means shorter usage than the S660 and the 5 inch 1280 x 720 pixels screen is quite an upgrade. Classified as mid-range, the S850 also comes with a 13 megapixels rear camera and a 5 megapixels front facing camera.
When it comes to specs and pricing of the three smartphones, the Lenovo S860 is the king of them all. The device certainly has some great specs including a massive 5.3 inch 720 x 1280 pixels (277 ppi density), the same quad-core 1.3 GHz processor available in the other two devices, 2 GB RAM and 16 GB onboard memory. It also boasts of a an 8 megapixels rear and 1.6 megapixels front cameras and with a 4,000 mAh battery that promises up to 40 days standby time or 12 hours usage time, it can be used as power backup to charge other devices like a phone just by connecting them using a cable.
The Lenovo S660, 850 and 860 will be available in the US market sometime in June according to Lenovo. The S660 budget phone will sell for $229, the S850 ladies phone for $269 and the S860 will retail for $349. Lenovo has declared its candidacy in the US smartphone market and with affordable but great devices like these, we now have a broader choice of smartphones to choose from. It is just unfortunate that despite Android 4.4 KitKat having been released last year, Lenovo launched these devices with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on board.
