Google’s plans to enter the smartwatch fray is well known to us. It now seems like the company might be readying to launch one fairly soon, if Evleaks is to be believed. The renowned Twitter source now claims that Google could launch its new smartwatch later this year during the Google I/O event (June 25-26). It is said that this smartwatch will be made by Korean manufacturer LG.
This is quite interesting and seems very likely as well given LG’s close association with Google over the last couple of years. With a smartwatch deal, Google can further cement its position with LG and hope for the market to be much more responsive as well. The current crop of smartwatches include the Pebble, the hotly announced Samsung Gear 2/Gear 2 Neo and the Qualcomm Toq, so there isn’t a lot of competition to tackle. However, by the time Google gears up to launch this smartwatch, the competition is certainly going to be a lot more.
