Two companies named Ideum and 3M have come together to launch coffee tables with a touchscreen powered by Android. These coffee tables will come in 32 and 46 inch configurations and will basically act as a large display with multitouch functions (and will act as a regular coffee table as well). These tables currently run Windows 8, but the Android version will be out later this year.
These coffee tables come with a 1080p resolution and support 60 point multitouch, so up to 6 people can simultaneously use the coffee table, which is a blessing for multiplayer gaming. Prices won’t be cheap though with the starting price expected to be around $6950. We’re not sure if there will be a lot of takers for these Android powered coffee tables, but it’s certainly a neat idea for large families.
The two variants feature 500GB of storage, 16GB of RAM and a 3.7 GHz Intel Core i7 quad core processor, so they are very well equipped in terms of hardware. Sadly, the Android variant is said to be running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, although this might change in time for the launch later this year. So who’s buying one?
