Vizio Introduces Portable Smart Audio Line-up Powered By Android

Vizio announced today a new product category called the portable smart audio system which delivers streaming audio. This product is unlike the existing Bluetooth or wireless speakers in the market today as it offer a complete smart audio experience. While other similar speakers rely on a smartphone or tablet to get their audio, Vizio’s latest product does not since it comes with a built-in touch interface and runs on Android KitKat and is able to function independently.

Consumers will be able to get content from YouTube, Pandora, or handle anything that an Android smartphone or tablet can do. The company is expected to initially release two models namely the VIZIO 7” and 4.7” portable smart audio.

The advantage of this system is that it provides an uninterrupted listening experience to audio fans everywhere. This is unlike the Bluetooth or other mobile speakers currently available whose audio often gets interrupted with the arrival of calls, e-mails, text messages or other notifications from the connected phone or tablet.

According to Matt McRae, Chief Technology Officer at VIZIO, “After looking very closely at the audio space, VIZIO decided it needed to be disrupted with a combination of our leading audio and smart TV technologies. Our new portable smart audio line-up reinvents the category by combining class-leading audio performance with a full touchscreen Android platform, delivering a first-class device capable of streaming music, playing games and watching video directly from the cloud or local storage.”

Both the 7” and 4.6” touchscreen display models have 802.11n Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth. Content can easily be downloaded to the devices over Wi-Fi. If no Internet signal is available then you can also stream content from your smartphone or tablet using Bluetooth. There’s also an internal storage space available where you can save your favorite tunes for playback.

The 7” model is designed to be sleek and comes with integrated handles so it can easily be carried around. T’s very easy to setup and should work immediately straight out of the box. The built-in lithium ion battery assures every one of hours of audio entertainment.

Both models are expected to hit the market on the second half of 2014 with the pricing to be released closer to product availability.
