Xiaomi is one of the forces to reckon with in the Chinese mobile industry. With smartphones like the recently launched Mi3, the company has well and truly marked its arrival on a global scale after somewhat cementing its position in the Chinese market. However, the company has also been working on the little known successor to the Xiaomi Hongmi (Red Rice) smartphone. Now some details have emerged on the Hongmi 2 smartphone through Chinese sources.
There’s not a lot of information available from these sources, but they go onto say that the smartphone will pack a 5.5 inch display and MediaTek’s MT6592 true octa core chipset. The price is slated to be somewhere upwards of 999 Chinese Yuan which roughly translates to $165. It’s unlikely that the Hongmi 2 will pack a 1080p display, but for that price, even an HD display would suffice.
The first gen Hongmi was a runaway success for the company as it sold over 100,000 units in just 2 minutes during its launch in October. The successor might not be far off according to these reports, so we can expect to learn more during the MWC event in Barcelona next month.
