During the recently held CES 2014 a lot of people were expecting Sony to unveil the successor to the Xperia Z1. What was announced instead was the Xperia Z1 Compact which is a compact version of the Z1.
New information coming from @evleaks indicates that the company will be announcing a smartphone called “Sirius” at the MWC 2014. “Sony Sirius (2014 flagship) tipped for MWC debut: 5.2-inch display, MSM8974AB SoC, and a home on Verizon in the US.” This device which is also called as the Xperia Z2 is the successor to the Z1 and will come with several upgrades over the previous model. Sony has not officially confirmed that it will be launching a device at the MWC 2014 however the company has used this event previously to announce new devices. With CES already done the next big event is the MWC.
The specifications of the Sony Xperia Z2 “Sirius” that we know of are still unofficial. The display of the device is going to be 5.25 inches and will have a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and a 564 ppi. This 2K display is going to be impressive and with Triluminos and X-Reality Bravia technology thrown in the mix it’s definitely going to be one of the best displays in a smartphone.
In terms of physical design the device will be slimmer than its predecessor and will also offer a water resistance feature. We are hoping that the Z2 will have a thinner bezel unlike the Z1 which was criticized for its rather large bezel.
Providing muscle for this device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core processor with a clock speed of 2.3GHz. It’s also going to have 3 GB of RAM which should provide a smooth multi-tasking experience. It’s also going to use a better battery rated at 3700 mAh.
What’s probably interesting to know is that the camera used by the Z2 is rumored to be 20.7 megapixels. No information has been leaked yet regarding the features of this camera however we are sure that it will be an improved version of the Z1.
The MWC 2014 will be held this coming February 24 to 27 in Barcelona so we are expecting more information regarding the Z2 to be released during this time.
