According to a Samsung engineer quoted by the folks at Android Geek, the Samsung Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Note II smartphones will get the coveted Android 4.4 update by the end of March this year, which is roughly another couple of months from now. With Samsung already rolling out the Android 4.4 update to last year’s flagships like the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy S4, it was only a matter of time before its predecessors got the same treatment, although slightly later.
There’s not much word on the specifics beyond this, but we should see similar changes as we saw with the Galaxy Note 3 update last week minus the S-Pen specific features of course. The Samsung engineer went on to say that the user interface will get the usual Android 4.4 specific tweaks with not a lot of changes to TouchWiz specifically. It’s good to see manufacturers rolling out updates even for two year old flagships which is a policy being followed by LG as well.
